[MUSIC] Welcome to Art and Activity: Interactive Strategies for Engaging with Art. We're here at the Museum of Modern Art and I'm Jessica Baldenhofer, your lead instructor for this course. I oversee school visits and partnerships here at MOMA. >> I'm Lisa Mazzola, assistant director of school and teacher programs. >> And I'm Stephanie Pau on the interpretation and research team at MOMA. >> In this course we're modeling and share methods for engaging students with works of art. We'll focus on sharing ideas for lessons and activities that provide active and experiential learning opportunities for your students around a variety of art objects. >> At MOMA, we believe that when students take an active role in their own learning, they have deeper and more memorable experiences. >> These object centered, activity based learning experiences are strategies that you can use in a museum or classroom. >> Each week, we'll give a sampling of many of the hands on activities we use in the museum galleries and the classroom. We'll explore the goals and benefits of each of these activities while sharing modifications for students of different ages. We'll illustrate the connections to standards and share how these activities help to develop critical thinking and visual literacy skills as well as provide assessment tools and strategies. >> In the spirit of this course we encourage you to do some of the activities yourself. Course content will be supplemented by quizzes, as well as opportunities for participating, sharing and getting feedback in our peer to peer discussion forums. The goal is for you to have a chance to share ideas and insights with each other. >> Remember, you don't need a background in art or art history to use these methods. And, we also think that these methods can be applied across disciplines, to historical or scientific objects, for example. We look forward to hearing how you use these activities and experiential learning opportunities in your classroom. [MUSIC]
