Molly, in your book, the fifth tool that you describe,
you describe it as great management of choices.
I thought that was a great phrase.
At the most basic level, now what does that mean?
>> Well, I think if we do some of the things that we're talking about here,
then we'll create choices for ourselves.
We'll have opportunities, and
from those opportunities we've gotta make the right choice, hopefully.
We've gotta also recognize that this maybe a job that leads us to another
opportunity.
It may be the job that we stay at for long time, but we're going to have choices.
And I think the more clarity we have around what it is that we want to pursue
long term,
what is our purpose in our own life, that clarity will help drive the right choice.
But when we do the things that we've talked about well, God willing,
we'll create choices.
When I got down to Atlanta,
my philosophy was let me sit down with as many people as will give me 15 minutes.
And I believe when we're looking for tough jobs, when we ask for advice,
we get a job.
>> Yeah.
>> And when we ask for a job, we get advice.
People love to give advice, right?
Here we are and I'm giving advice, right?
It makes us feel good.
So I would sit with people and I would ask them for advice.
And when I would get advice, I would sort of listen and take that feedback and
try to incorporate that into my approach.
And then at the end of every meeting I would ask, gosh,
it'd be somebody that I felt like had some influence and some ability to support me.
And the goal inside of that meeting was how do I get them to like me, trust me,
and help me.
And then if they would give me the names of three
more people that I could meet with.
Then I'd go from one to three.
And then I'd meet with those three and ask for advice.
And those three people would give me three more names.
So now you got nine, right?
>> Yeah.
>> So I did that for months.
And then I had a rolodex of people that I felt trusted me, respected me, liked me,
and wanted to help me.
And I think that that process isn't particularly complicated, but
I can guarantee you it works.
