Okay, hello everyone. For today module, we will be focusing on introduction to construction of project planning. So let's start by what is planning and scheduling? If you want to think about from a bigger picture, planning and scheduling, it's all about dealing with the project time management. So you want to provide the construction project with the plan and the schedule, that is essential and important to be able to manage your time efficiently and effectively. And project time management, focusing on three processes or phases, which is the planning phase, and something very important, which is the tracking and control of the plants. And that refers to tracking your construction progress, comparing the actual outcome to the predicted outcomes that you have in your plans, and analyzing the impact that you get in the field with the one that you have in the plans. And make the adjustments and the elasticity adjustments to come back with the plans, and that, we'll cover in the upcoming few slides. So, in this case, a good construction, a plan, is the actual foundation for developing the right budget and the right schedule for the work, and construction project, in general. So when we talk about project time management, we talk about the phrase time is money. Time is money we are referring to all of the partners. From the owner perspective, from the users of the constructed facilities and the contractors or even the builders. So from the owner's perspective, if we losing time in our project and not managing it in a timely fashion we're losing revenue, not receiving return on our investments more and more. We have the potential loss of clients or tenants for my facilities. And also, it might give us kind of some negative marketing impacts as a developer to the public. So that's also from an honored perspective, why time is money. Also from a user perspective it is similar situation like the owner perspective, from the financial implications. But also delaying, degrading a facility, or constructing the facility means operating at below optimum efficiency, and that will result in higher costs, for the users. From the contractor point of view, or from the builder's point of view, or even the subcontractor point of view losing the time, it might result in liquidated damages, or you might be targeted towards losing an incentive or bonus towards the end of your project if you finish the project ahead of time. And also it might cause delays to extend some overhead cost and other liabilities as well. Last but not the least for contractor or a builder in efficiency time management results actually in higher labor and equipment costs. So, let me give you an example of when we talk about planning and scheduling. What's the difference between these two words, plans and the schedule? So, imagine that you are traveling from point a to point b. You are going from to Mumbai or Dubai to Abu Dhabi, Or New York to Washington DC, starting from the plan perspective. When you start planning for such a trip, you start to think, okay, how I'm gonna go there? I'm gonna fly, I'm gonna take the bus, or I'm gonna drive. So this say, okay I decided on the option that I want to choose, which is I want to fly. Okay, if I want to fly, how am I gonna go to the airport from my home, and then when I get to my destination point b, how I'm going to get from the airport to the hotel in my trip. So that, if you want to look at as that project, which is the trip, and the plan, I just provided is okay, I wanna take a taxi, or I will ask my friend to come pick me up from my home to the Airport, I'm gonna take a flight, American Airlines, Delta, you name it to Washington DC. Then I'm gonna take another taxi, or I'm gonna take the subway to my hotel and I'm gonna check in in my hotel. That's it. That's a plan. The schedule is to put the time associated in the plans and the tasks that you put and developed or built with in your plan. For example, I will ask myself, I wanna wake up at six in the morning. At 8 o'clock in the morning, I'm waiting for my taxi to come pick me up. At 9 o'clock in the morning, I will arrive at the airport. At 10:30 or let's say 11, my flight will take off from New York, JFK, Kennedy Airport heading to Washington. I will arrive there, let's say, by noon or 12:30. When I arrive there, there's a taxi coming to pick me up at 12:45. Or let's say, I'm taking the subway by 12:45 to head to my hotel by 1:30, to check in. So if you notice, I connected the plan to the time component, which is what we call then the schedule. So in summation, for construction industry, the scheduling problem is to determine an appropriate set of activity start time, resource allocations, and the completion times of these activities. That will result in completing the project on time. Constructing a planning is the necessary forerunner to the scheduling. So why this is important in planning the scheduling? There is many items why we are studying planning scheduling. Let's highlight major three. One, as we mentioned before, tracking and controlling project time and cost. You wanna make sure that you're controlling the schedule and the budget and not deviate from the plan, the schedule, and the plan's budget that you have for your project. Claims analysis, quantification and the terms, this is help us a lot In conflicts and disputions in construction. If something went wrong, you can go back to your initial plans and study it, and see what is the conflict that happened between what's planned for, and what actually happened, or went wrong. Last but not least of course is the effective utilization of the construction resource, and I want to pause here a little bit about the construction resources point of view. In construction we have four major resources, so we have money, machines, man power, and we have materials, construction materials. So effective utilization of the resources has to go on these main four resources in our construction industry that refers to what we call them the four m`s of the construction resources. And the equalization has to go very effectively with major three objectives, which will be focusing on the budget you have in hand, on your project, the quality. And the time. So you just need to make sure effectively to utilize all these resources towards all the main objectives that you have to accomplish as a effective plan of your project.
