And I'm going to go through my Start menu. And I'm going to go to, typically you'll find some kind of either Oracle or P6 or Primavera P6. So I'm going to click on that. So the first thing to mention is that P6 is a database platform. So it's all based on a database. It's not a file, there's a database that includes all of the company data or all of the project data. So you have to select the database that you're working with. A lot of times if a database is not selected, the platform will not start. So, I'm selecting that database. I'm going to the STV projects database. And then it has permissions and rights. So I'm just going to input my user name and password. So now that's connecting to the company server, so that's why it takes a little bit longer than Microsoft Project, and it connects to all of the company's schedules. So let me minimize that for a second. So, the interface for P6 is maybe, it's not as complicated as many other systems, but it is not as simple as Microsoft Project. So some people may fear opening up the P6 database in order to work with it. So that's sometimes a challenge for some, so we're going to talk about the interface for a little bit. So, once you start opening that database, you open this window for the projects. So, it really is showing you all of the projects that are in the system. It's not showing you one project. You didn't double-click on a file to open it. You're actually opening up the whole database. So, there's something called the enterprise project structure that I spoke about earlier so that enterprise projects structures really how you really breakdown your whole database. So, it could be per client, it could be per type of project so you could have aviation, health care, residential, commercial, offices, and so on. It could be based on how you operate as a business. So for us as a business, we decided to break it down in terms of people and whose responsible for what work and then they can create their own breakdown under their own unique structure. So the enterprise project structure is really looked at from an enterprise level and if you want to get to that EPS view, you go to Enterprise and then you go to Project. So that's the view that I'm in, so let me expand that. Now there's a lot of detail under here in that window of all the details is always shown, and if it doesn't show for you, you can click on this icon right here. It'll show you the details if I click on it. It'll show me that tab. So if you don't have it on your screen you can click on it and then you'll be able to see that. Let me scroll down to my name right here. So you can see I have multiple projects. I can create breakdowns under my own name. And create any type of breakdown that I need. And then, let me open up one of these projects to see an example, so you'll see that another tab right here appeared, another tab that's for the activity. So that activities tab is really showing you your own project. So a lot of people are looking at projects and are looking for project that the detailed level of activities knows. So under projects that's the EPS. It shows you each project trolled up under only one line items. So if I go under my name again. This project that we're in. It's shown as one line item and it shows that starts on May 24th, 2013 and ends on December 2013. So that's the whole project. There is no way that I could see the activity level in this view. I can only open the project, and you can open the project by clicking right-click and Open. And you will see it, that this folder right here demonstrates that the icon changes to show you that it's open. So I only have one open project. And if you go to the Activities tab, then you can see the list of activities. You can also get to the activity stub by clicking here, when you click on Activities it shows you all the activities that you have opened, all the activities for the project that you have opened. So if you have one project that shows you that, we have five projects that shows you the five that you have two projects that shows you two projects. So let me go back to that activity view. So this project right here has different settings. So if I click on let's say this activity, clearly this is a milestone. Not only because it's called the milestone but also because you have this icon right here showing that diamond shape which is pretty standard for any scheduling tool. Let me resort it by activity ID. So let me click here. Once you click on this view. Again, you see that task details page. Now again, if you don't have it, you can click on that details icon at the top here. As you can see, if you click on any other icon, it shows you very different views. So let me go back to that activity detail and then you can clearly expand and reduce the size of the stub depends on what you would like to see on your screen. So when adding an activity in P6 you need to pay very, very close attention to all the settings that you have. Similar to Microsoft Project in terms of setting up the calendars. Setting up the task type, the relationship type, and so on. You need to set these settings here as well. So if I check this activity. So this is a milestone 7, I am expecting that it will be a milestone. So activity types, you have different types of activities, which is similar in a way to Microsoft Project as well. So the activity type here is a finished milestone it could be a start milestone. So we specify the dates for that. So finish milestone, start milestone. Task dependent. Means that it depends on the task that you're working with. Level of effort. Typically groups, multiple activities together. WBS summary, again shows a summary of a group of activities. So if I click on this milestones, this is a WBS summary. But this right here is an actual activity. So typically you with either use finish milestone or task dependent or start milestone. So task dependent, most of the other activities will be task dependent. All right, back to that milestone. The other settings for that, the WBS which I'll speak about in a minute. The activity calendar which is extremely important. So within the database now because you're working in a company environment you have multiple calendars that are available. It's not only one calendar, there's multiple that you can choose from, preferably the administrator keeps track of all these calendars. So you don't have people having the calendars with their names on them, with every schedule that you import, it imports its calendars with it, and if you fail to import these calendars than the schedule doesn't really make much sense to you as well. So that's something that you always need to keep track of. So let's say it's using a standard five day week work calendar. Other important items to note is that under relationships you can see what was assigned as a predecessor, what was assigned a successor. You can assign it even, you can move within the schedule to these items. So if I click on this activity I can go to it. The other thing about P6 or any other project as well, and it's also a contractual requirement, is that you can assign work breakdown structure, and you can assign activity codes. Those two were extremely important, I think, for schedule analysis, for utilizing the schedule and context with other platforms. Whether be it BIM or a schedule analysis or schedule review. So if I click on Project and work breakdown structure, so bear in mind that these two menus are whether I'm working at an enterprise level or I'm working on a project level. So on a project level, if I go to the work breakdown structure, I will see the work breakdown structure of this project, so I have got 45 activities under GC submittals. I've got 35 activities under HVAC submittals and so on. And I can add that work breakdown structure here. I can change it, I can add additional items, but right now I'm just reviewing that schedule. I'm just looking at it and see what it is included in that P6 database. So this is where the work breakdown structure is. And then if I go back to the activities again, then I can see that every one of these items is assigned one of this work breakdown structure. So if I click on these three dots right here, I can reassign it to something else or I can see a whole list of the work breakdown structure as well. Other settings that I could do to make it more usable for my purposes is that I can group and sort the list of activities in any manner that I would need to see it. Typically, most of the views are group and sorted by the WBS. So if you click on this icon right here and go to the window for grouping and sorting, then you can see I'm assigning it by WBS, I'm grouping it by WBS. So you could just pick that WBS item and then it selects all levels. Or you could say I want to group it up to one level. So apply and here note that change. So the second level disappeared. If I want to get it back, then I'm going to say, it's a level three for example, and apply. And that level appeared in my schedule. Similarly to what we did under Microsoft Project is to show that total float, so let me look at the columns here. The total flow is shown, but if you were needing to show another column that's nonexistent, you would basically right-click on the columns here. And click on columns. And then the idea is that you can either look under these categories of items and click on the plus sign to find what you're looking for. But you can also right-click here, click Find, or of course, Ctrl+F, and search for what you're looking for. So let me search for, free floats. And so I've got total float already. And I'm going to click on this arrow here, or I can double-click on the item. And it appears in my columns, I can move it so that sorted within how I need to see it. So let me put it right before total float and hit Apply, so that way, I can see whatever columns I need, so if you need to add then remove columns, let's remove some columns to make it clearer. So let's remove actuals and planned, keep one date, let's remove percent complete and remaining duration. So that makes it very simple and quite standard view. So that will show you the activities and will show you these different columns. So let me minimize this column right here to make the Gantt chart a little bit visible.
