Today technological change is driving our society at a very fast pace, from our working environment to our organizations, to our society at large. And when we talk about technological change, we are referring to any incremental improvement or a breakthrough improvement in the way we know, we deliver, our value added to the society at large. It can be in terms of products, it can be in terms of processes, it can be in terms of organizational firms, and it can be in terms of new value added in forms of art and different forms of innovation. So, technological change is not only R&D and patents, but it is a system, an ecosystem of technological improvements that are heavily embedded in knowledge, bringing added value to various forms of deliveries of services and products to the society at large. When it comes to leveraging technological change for sustainability, various organizations are very active, such as the UN, United Nations Sustainable Development program, as well as World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Especially World Business Council for Sustainable Development has an emphasis on not only improving environmental impact of the corporations, but also delivering green products, green innovations to the markets at large. So there are today more than 200 companies that are collaborating to bring value added through technological change initiatives to the markets that would be resulting in green products and green services. When we talk of innovation, we don't necessarily refer to products and patents, we are also referring to process improvements such as process innovations, organizational innovations in terms of organizational norms, and also organizational and services-related improvements that the companies would be engaging in. So any value added the company embeds in its services which has green impact as a dimension, would be referred to as green innovations. Green innovations do get defined as green effective innovations and green efficient innovations. When we talk about efficiency, we are talking about improvement in the environmental impact of certain products which result in green products, greener products. And when we talk about green effectiveness, we are talking about breakthrough innovations that are embedded into products where the complete interaction between the user and the product itself is at a different level where there is not much old habits of product usage as it used to be. Technological change is evolving our societies, our organizations, and our daily lives. The way we see technology embedded in all business practices, in services, will be also having a great impact on our daily life patterns, and we are experiencing those. The future of the sustainability will heavily be depending on technological change. In other words, we can say that technological change is, and will even more be becoming, the fuel of the sustainability challenges. Products, services, organizations and even the workforce will be evolving around technological leaps, technological change that happens incrementally.
