[MUSIC] Hello guys. We are starting the first class of the startup creation course at the "Núcleo de Empreendedorismo da USP". And this class aims to be a little more introductory, so much so that its name is "Before Starting". So this course brings a little bit of all the learning that we had with our startups, whether with the ones we saw being born, grown, or startups that really are part of the USP ecosystem which are founded by alumni, or by students graduated here. For example, 99 Taxi, iFood, Kekanto, Nubank, Worldpacker. There are many startups. And we saw a lot of their growth, and from there we created courses, we have classes here at the engineering school, we have different mechanisms to teach students a little about some important things, so to speak, for the process of setting up a business. And the first one is before starting. Some things you have to know before starting. Well, when we talk about before starting, we talk about some topics that it's good that you know before you want to start setting up a business, before you start taking this path to really be a bit briefed, a little pre-prepared about this whole process and the first point is about team. We have a team issue that is very strong. We talk to our students a lot about this team issue, which is to have a complementary team, know what your skills are, what your team's skills are, know what they are made of, how you met them, if you already have previous projects together. We always look at this when we are evaluating projects, for example, here at USP. We ask: What is your experience together before? The partner, and the other partner have you worked together before, do you already have a connection, or did you join now for this idea and you didn't even know each other? Because over time, and we are already talking about an another topic here, which is over time, there is a very great emotional challenge to setting up a business. And this emotional challenge demands a lot from the partners. So having people who are on your side and sometimes know how to support you when you need it; sometimes you will support them, but you having a little bit of this. On this journey, having people by your side who really manage to be complementary is very important. And not much about this emotional thing, which we say that setting up a business is an emotional roller coaster, in the morning you are doing super well and in the afternoon you already receive news and you are very bad, because whether or not you want a startup is a risk. You are starting something very new, so good news opens up many horizons. You see an infinity of possibilities in front of you and bad news ends your dreams overnight. So you experience this good news, bad news all the time, you are emotionally demanded, and the element that we always talk about is persistence. Persistence and consistency too. It's not giving up. If you are going through hell keep walking. You're going to go through hell, it's going to be difficult, the process is complicated, it's tough. And this hardness is part of your training process. This awareness, this emotional intelligence, you are stressing this roller coaster. This roller coaster is getting bigger and bigger, and this emotional intelligence stress is preparing you. There are many entrepreneurs here who say: Man, in your first class you talked about emotional intelligence and only today I see how much this roller coaster exists and how strong it is, so much so that this has to be reinforced. A good book on the subject is 'O Lado DifÃcil das Situações DifÃceis', originally it's 'The Hard Thing About Hard Things', by Ben Horowitz. So it's a good read on this topic of emotional challenges. Understanding that startup is learning quickly. So if you have a project, a dream, an idea, put it out there and try to learn as much as possible. Try to put it into practice as soon as possible. This thing about: I won't tell anyone my idea. I will not put it out there because they can copy it. Because it's very difficult, you have to have the app, you have to have a developer. It's a rumor. We always say: Man, if you're waiting for a developer to show up, if you're waiting for a tech guy or girl to give you support, you're not starting the right way. You have to make do with what you have. Entrepreneurship is an ability to organize resources to explore an opportunity. So organize yours and try to do with what you have and do it really fast. Do it as soon as possible, test and try to learn. This you will see a little more in the classes ahead. Be obsessed with your user. Understand that you as an entrepreneur, you are solving a pain point, you are solving a problem. If you are not obsessed with resolving this pain point, during this emotional roller coaster will get you off. You will receive other opportunities, you will see other opportunities of business and everyone who starts out wrong gets out too soon. So know this. And in this obsession with the user, you're going to have to talk to a lot of people. So if you're shy, get ready to go out in the street, get ready to meet people. I think that both I and most of the entrepreneurs, or the team here at "Núcleo de Empreendedorismo da USP", are vey introverted. We don't like to go out on the street and talk so much, but when it's for the purpose of entrepreneurship, startups, we go, because we know it's a mission. So understand that this is part of your mission and it makes it easier for you to go out on the street. Well, these are the main topics, we just wanted to bring this introduction and understand this emotional aspect and you knowing how to balance your emotions in order to set up a business. You will face procrastination, you will face discouragement, lack of motivation, lack of incentive around you and you have to have a very strong emotional spirit to go through all of this, to organize yourself, observe yourself, know yourself, to choose the path which is really good for you. know this first class may seem very motivational, but these doses of awareness are important before you set up a business. We hope you enjoyed it and that this course will be very useful for you in this process of creating a company. Thank you very much. See you later, people. [
