So for the end of this course, you will be doing a website. You may have some banners and different things like that, we did do a banner ad earlier on, but now I want to show you some just a little bit of image manipulation. We've gone through some more detailed stuff on printing and colors, and now I want to tell you just a little bit more about images. So this is Rosie model spring Herschel senior dog and I want to maybe use her on a website. A couple of things that I do first of all just a little bit on layers in Photoshop, because obviously it deals a lot with layers. This is old school but I still do it just because it tends to work for me now, and this is just a habit I've gotten into and I just have found that it has been real successful and found that if you don't do it it's not as successful as a project. So if you've noticed I've pulled this picture of Rosie and taken an up front yard on a lovely fall day, but right now, it's calling it background, and this is our base layer unless we move it around and things like that. So I don't really want to do anything to that base layer too much. I want to hopefully keep it. If I've made a lot of mistakes, I could go back to it and kind of start over. So what I'm going to do is up here under layers, I'm going to say duplicate layer, and watch down in my layers down there in the bottom right-hand area. I say duplicate layer, I can call it Rosie and then say okay, and now I've got another layer of Rosie right there. Same image so far because I haven't done anything, and you've got these little eyes right here that's actually what that is. I'm going to turn that bottom layer off. Just got to keep it there, like it says there, I'm going to turn the layer visibility off because I'm going to do, I want to kind of show you guys how to change image sizes, a little bit more about our graphic files and everything. So this is a JPEG. Let me first of all see what image size this is. So I go into image, image size, and I'm going to click on that. Over here you'll notice it's giving me some different stuff, the different pixels and all that stuff, and yours may be defaulted depending on how much you've used Photoshop. It may be defaulted to inches. How you get to pixels is you just pull this little drop-down menus and you've got a lot of different features there, you might even be in centimeters or even millimeters. Notice there's those points and pipe there because we talked about way back in, I think it was one of the earlier courses, but I'm just going to change it to pixels right now because it's saying it's 13 inches by 13 inches and I'm going to go pixels. It's also telling me that it's 72 resolution, which is not really big, but it is what it is, this was taken on a cell phone. Actually, what your cell phones tend to do is they do take the resolution will be 72, but the pictures, the actual dimensions of them are bigger. So this is 13 by 13, so it's a way to still have some extra pixels to play with, but it's what our phones are based off of. So again I'm going to go to pixels and I know I've basically got a square picture here for the most part; 958 by 958 basically. So I'm okay, that's good to know. But let's say I wanted to make, I don't know, a banner or something that I knew that when you are going in to make your websites and you're either using maybe Wix or WordPress or something like that, and you have been given the dimensions whether it be for your banner that's across your website, the top banner, the main image there and you know that it needs to be these pixels. So that's going to be 720 pixels by 300 pixels. So 720 by 300. Let's say I want to put Rosie in something that's going to be like that. First of all, I got to go in because I know that my image size is a little bit too big but I know that I want to get it too because the height of that box that I'm going to put it in my banner was 270 by 300. So I'm going to go ahead and change this to 300 since she's pretty much a square, right there a little square. She's kind of a little square. I'm going to say okay, but it's like wow, wait I still don't have anything on the side. This is one of those times, remember I've been saying several times you want to get an image as big as you can so that then in that way, I can make it smaller if I want to. So I've got this image saved somewhere else, I've also got this layer over here, it's different ways, but this is letting me take a image that was a lot bigger and make it smaller, and it's going to compress my pixels in a way not really compress them but in such a way that now, because if she had been this small and I wanted to make her bigger, the picture was going to get blurry. So a back over here, again I'm going with the 720 by 300. So now, it's well, I've got 300 by 300, where's the rest of my 720? Well, I can go in again up to here to image, and this time instead of going to image size I want to go to Canvas size. Because that's literally giving me the area that I can work within Canvas. So I'm going to say canvas size. Set to inches, so instead I want to go to pixels and I know that my height is 300 for that banner, that I'm going to be using on my website, but now I want to go to 720 for my width, and then I'm going to say okay. Notice now Rosie's got some extra stuff on the side, I can make sure that I have got my move tool selected, and I can move her over this way or over that way, and then go to town with whatever step I want to put over here. Whether it'd be text, or colors, or another image or something like that, that I may be using somewhere on my website that you get to turn in at the end of this project, or to the end of this course. So that's one of your projects and this is just one way to manipulate images and play around with them and some of the websites depending on which website you're going with to make, excuse me, well, which website you're going to use to make your website, which program you're using online. They may have some of these built in, but if they don't and you have access to Photoshop, that's a really quick and dirty way to change your images and then go in. You know up here under an image, image size was that actual image and canvas size is a really fun one to play around with. So hopefully, that helps you a little bit and I look forward to seeing what your final projects are like.
