Hey everyone. I wanted to just give you an overview of what week one is all about. Before I go into the objectives for week one, I want to go through the website here. This is what it look like for you every day excel, part 1. Over here on the left, you've got a navigation bar that's got the overview and all of the different weeks. There's some other things here like discussion forums, messages, classmates. You can go through and you can look at the individual weeks and it tells you what you have left. You can over here and click on the various weeks here, so I can click on week one. It has the remaining screencasts that I need to watch. You want to read through the reading material here in each week, got some stuff on the importance of a course certificate. I've got some information for, if you are a Mac user, Discussion Prompt here, maybe introduce yourself where you're from, why you're interested in learning Excel. This is optional, but I always like to hear from learners. There's an Unlock Quiz here, this is only available to paid learners. Assessments in this course are only available to paid learners. If you take this quiz, it's a very easy quiz, you will unlock the week one Excel files that you can use in these various screencasts. So what you're going to want to do is go through the screencasts one at a time and this is how you learn the course material. Once you've gone through all the videos, then you're going to go down here to Quiz 1 and Assignment 1, you have to pass both of them. Quiz 1 has five questions, you need to get an 80 percent, which means you need four out of five of those to move on. Once you pass Quiz 1, Assignment 1 will become available and you can read some instructions here. This tells you the Assignment 1, preview and instructions, what you're trying to do. If you have questions, you can always fill out this Assignment 1 discussion. The nice thing about the assignments in this course is they're all done on computer, meaning you'll download a starter file and you can, again, look at the assignment previews and instructions, but you're going to be doing the assignments actually in Excel on your computer. Once you have successfully passed the assignment, you can go into here on the Coursera site and you submit a completion code that you get from the Excel files, once you've successfully completed the assignments, and you can put them in here and I'll update your grade. Once you have completed the quiz and assignment for a module, for a week, then it'll make available the Excel files for the next week. So once you pass Quiz 1 and assignment 1, the week two Excel files will become available to pay learners and then you can use those as you follow along in the screencast in the next week. So I wanted to give you an overview of the week one objectives. Week one starts very basic and then gets into some more complex stuff. The first thing, you're going to learn, you're going to learn about saving and opening files, you're going to learn all about Sheets, cells, rows, and columns, basic spreadsheet navigation, editing the worksheet, how you can format cells and conditionally format cells. You're also going to learn how you can Auto fill and fill series, you're going to learn about cell addressing modes and naming cells and cell ranges in Excel, and I'm going to give you an introduction to VBA Macros. So just a preview of some of the things that you're going to learn. You're going to learn how to insert cells, for example, I can right-click here and I can insert by shifting cells down, we can insert cells on the worksheet. I'm going to show you how we can name different variables. Right now, this has a cell reference of B9 up here, but I'm going to show you how you can name this something like x. So in any other location on the worksheet, you can just type in the name of that variable and it'll be recognized. Some other things I'm going to teach you, there's Auto fill. So up you have to values that are separated by a increment then you can drag this down to make a constant linear series, which is quite helpful. There's some other interesting things built into Excel, you can just type in, for example, Monday, and you can drag this down and it'll give you a nice a series of days. We can also do that with months by taking January and pulling this over. I'll teach you how to format cells, you can just change the color if you want, you can change the font, you can center. There's all sorts of things that I'm going to be teaching you. You can change the type of formatting, whether that's a number or currency, or percentage. I'll also show you about cell addressing modes. Some you may have experimented around with Excel and you may have noticed these letters and numbers and sometimes you might see them with dollar signs, I'm going to explain all about cell references. Finally, I'm going to show you how we can record basic VBA Macros, for example, maybe I'm oftentimes italicizing and underlining a certain word. I can go up here to the Developer tab, you can record a macro. While it's recording, I can format it however I want. So maybe I wanted to italicize, underline, center, and make it red. Then I can stop recording and I can go to any other cell, and then I can run that macro. We do the same thing that we did while we recorded that macro. So this enables you to do a lot more in Excel. So that's just an overview of what we're going to be doing in week one. Let's go ahead and get started.
