Hi, my name is Subhashish. I'm a volunteer of O Fundation, active community member of Rising Voices. In this video, I'm going to talk about how Rising Voices is helping amplify marginalized voices through digital activism four languages and is helping build pure learning networks. Rising Voices is the digital inclusion arm of Global Voices and helps meaningful participation of marginalized and or under-represented communities in the digital space. Global Voices is a diverse international community that advocates for and reports on various issues and those issues range from human rights and Internet rights to the issues of under-represented communities that are facing to tell their stories. Global Voices is available in 40 World languages. Digital activism lies in the core of Rising Voices. We think of digital activism as a device. It helps guide how the Internet, digital media, and technology are used as tools to promote the use of indigenous minority languages and under-represented languages and under-resourced languages to intentional projects and initiatives. These are designed to encourage young speakers for the use of languages in new spaces to share knowledge and skills. Some of the practical actions include facilitation of networks of language, digital activist through pure learning and knowledge exchange. Rising Voices has organized and co-organized gatherings in Mexico, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Julian, Guatemala since 2014. These spaces have been very instrumental in pure learning and exchange of knowledge, experience and they've helped build new skill set. The networks of people with different skill set are also very useful for fostering stronger and long lasting collaborations. Being a publication platform, Rising Voices helps language digital activists talk about their own challenges and the ways that they use to overcome the same, so others can adopt the strategies and can apply in their own contexts. These issues range from technological challenges and strategies like lack of input tools for written language or what happens when there is no consensus of writing systems for an oral language. Rising Voices design a lot of social media campaigns to amplify the work of language digital activists and help them share their stories directly. There are four rotating tutor campaigns at this moment. There's AsiaLangsOnline in Asia, NativeLangsTech in North America, and ActLenguas in South America and DigiAfricanLang in Africa that are run in rotation by regional languages digital activists. One of these activists, his name is Fikri Ansori, he's from Indonesia. He shared how he standardizing the Rejang script, which is used for his native language Rejang. There was a campaign called Meme ML that Rising Voices has organized in the recent past. This is to celebrate the International Mother Language day by encouraging people to create memes in their languages. This a fun way to participate online and another initiative is creation of an online directory, a project for Latin America as a way to share experiences and learn best practices. Rising voices is a partner for UNESCO's International Year of Indigenous Languages. This campaign has helped accelerate initiatives around the world to promote pluralism and linguistic diversity. This has also become really important to take forward linguistic diversity initiatives forward. Rising Voices has become an open space for collaboration with like spirited individuals and groups and we think of technology as a tool and not a panacea. To put that into perspectives, we put a lot of focus on people and digital activism becomes part of the overall strategy and it helps in building human networks. That is very important because it helps in pure learning mentorship, and find common perspectives while understanding unique context. This is a message that we will share with the rest of the world. While you were at this topic, also think about how communities can measure the impact of the use of technology and Internet for the growth and protection and preservation and even revitalization of under-represented languages beyond likes, fuse, and fans. Secondly, further ways communities can share their best practices and digital activism for languages with others. Thank you so much.
