[MUSIC] Now that you've been introduced to the thought model, it's time to actually apply what you've learned to a personal, real world situation. For this peer review assignment, I'm asking you to write a brief paper describing a challenging situation you're currently experiencing that you would like to improve with the use of the thought Model. This is a multi-part assignment, so let me describe what I'm asking you to do. In the first part of your paper, I'd like you to describe a challenging situation you're currently experiencing with an employee, colleague, or manager from your own point of view. However, please respect people's privacy, and don't use real names of people or companies. I think it's fun to make up some fun, different names, just to make it interesting. Either make something up, or talk about the situation in general terms without referring to specific people by name. Try to aim for two to three paragraphs here, probably 100 to 200 words or so. In the second part of your paper, I'd like you to analyze what you wrote about this challenge using the thought model. Identify the circumstance. Remember, that's a fact. Then identify the thoughts you have about the circumstance. Identify the feelings that you are having, and how those feelings are driving your actions. That will help you also see how he's arrived at the results that you had. If you need a refresher on what these are please refer to the two videos in this lesson on the thought model. And examples also provided in the assignment instructions. In this second part I'd also like you to give some rationale explaining why what you'd identified is correct. One to three sentences that demonstrates to your reviewer that you are correctly analyzing the situation, and the elements of the thought model should suffice. Now, this is the fun part. In the next part of your paper, I'd like you to come up with a plan to improve the situation by applying the thought model backwards, or in reverse. Decide what result you want to have. Then ask yourself what action will I need to take to get this result. What feeling will drive that action, and what thought will drive that feeling. Document this plan and then put it into action. Once you've put your plan in motion, the last part of your paper is to reflect on this process of using the thought model. The assignment instructions contain a lot of specific questions that I would like you to consider as you're drafting your response. But in general, you want to include things like, how does understanding the thought model help you better create actions and results that you want? What were the actual results and did they differ from what you've previously been experiencing? What did you learn using this model? And what are your next steps? As I said, there's a long list of questions that should help you reflect on your experience in the assignment instructions. This final part is really the bulk of the assignment. As such, it should take you a few paragraphs to complete. Probably somewhere between 300 and 500 words. Once you've completed it, please submit your response as a word, text, or PDF file to Coursera. As this is a peer review assignment, you will then be asked to review several of your classmates' papers as well to complete the assignment. A rubric for grading has been provided that outlines several criteria for each part of the paper. Please be considerate to your fellow learners, and give each of the papers the same thoughtful grading and feedback that you would want for your own paper. Once you've completed the reviews, you are officially done with the assignment. Thank you for taking time to watch this video explanation of the assignment. I sincerely hope you enjoy this exercise and find it a worthwhile learning experience.
