[MUSIC] It all starts with contacts. So, hi. Did I get one or did I not? Well, since everything starts with the contact, we need to get the first attention. If you have contacts, start with the ones you have. Friends, family, colleagues. Because in average, it's easier to sell to people we already have existing contacts with, like existing customers and trying to sell more to them. But if you don't, if we don't have contacts, where to start? Well, there are dozens of methods. And actually since technology is evolving, we get more and more options for new kind of contacts. But having a look on it, street sales, knocking on doors, sending people letters, phone calling them, SMS, going to conferences, and getting a relationship, emailing, social media, Internet. Well, there are dozens of options for contacts. Sales people, normally calls the different kind of channels for contacts, sales channels. And every kind of sales channel has its embedded technology. So of course we need to know how that technology work. A mailbox works in a certain way, knocking on doors in another way. Further on, we will concentrate on some of these channels, the most commonly used ones, as well as some that are really illustrative or whatever you call it, Illustrativ [FOREIGN]. Street sales, SMS, phone calling and emailing and social media of course, and not the least physical meetings which is really common in business to business. Street sales, how come certain kind of people are able to make us stop on the street? And how to make a person stop on the street? How to say something relevant to them in less than 30 second? It comes down to knowing the audience. I had a friend once, she was trying to sell Dell computers at my airport. People walk very quickly on an airport, so how to make them stop? At that time, mobile phones were quite new so the starting off was, hey, it's a phone call for you. It made them stop. Would that work today? No, maybe not, simply because it's not a new thing anymore. So we need to adapt to the times where we're living. Door knocking, how come certain people are able to sell stuff by knocking on doors? Yesterday evening, there was a young guy knocking on my door, and he was trying to sell flowers. And he actually made it, it was quite simple. Hi, my name is, I'm selling flowers to my school journey, would you like to buy some? He was nice, friendly. I could not refuse it, so of course I bought some flowers. Try to know the audience. This guy obviously knew what a person like me having children of their own do care about. Letters and emails. Well, are emails the only way today, are letters dead? Most people will say, yes, letters are dead, physical letters are dead. But on the other hand, it's said that less than 50% of young women never have got a handwritten mail in the normal mailbox. So maybe that's a good channel today. How many emails do you get per day? How many emails do you even look at? Sending SMS. Some would say that sending an SMS to a person is something you're only allowed to do if you're a friend to them. That's probably why a lot of SMS bombing from companies doesn't work. They get too close to us. But even if I wanted to get and send an SMS to someone, how to get their phone number? Well, here it shows a need to do some research before we start selling. Try to know the audience, where are they? How do they look? Why should they care? Conferences, that's a really common way in business to business relationships to get a first contact. Mingling during a presentation, talking to people during coffee breaks, there is actually an art of mingling. Try the elevator pitch. We stand in an elevator, we've got 30 seconds trying to make them interested, and leave the business card, that's it. We've got to know the audience. If you only have 30 seconds in an elevator, don't try to give them the whole sales journey. There is actually even an art in handshaking. A dead fish, a dead handshake, is a dead handshake. Would you like to buy from somebody who's actually a dead fish? No, so, hi, how are you doing? My name is. Contacting basics, no matter channel comes down to, who am I contacting? What do I know about them? Do they care? Why should they care? Know the audience. So, let's try it again. Hi. Please give me a call and see if it works.
