[MUSIC] Hi, I am Professor Duck-Joo Lee from KAIST. Last class, we reflected on our past. We drew our life graph and recalled the time that has passed. When we drew the life graph, the moments at each point in my life were not clear at first. But through self-reflection when we reflected on the events, we found that all the scenes are stored in my brain, right? Even though we just saw them for a few moments, it was a very special experience. Of course, you may have seen the moment suddenly and randomly, but it is the beauty of this lecture that you can see the scenes of your life from childhood until now. Thus, the methodology of self-reflection meditation is totally different in that you can see clearly the remnants of your life in detail. Some of you may not have seen the remnants clearly. So, I ask you to recall scenes from this morning. Nonetheless, if you have problems recalling, please contact me. If you couldn't recall the scenes clearly or you think you need a consultation on how to recall better, don't hesitate to email me directly. Whether you recall very well or not, you may know that your past remains in your mind. Like history artifacts, your past may be undiscovered now, but it is a fact that your past still remains. We are rediscovering ourselves through our past. You may think that you know yourself very well, but self-reflection leads to a very special discovery. Sometimes artifacts are stolen, but don't worry. Nobody will steal the remnants of your life. I am here to help you discover yourself. Have you done your homework assignments? Have you reflected on your life briefly at home? Don't rush through the recalling exercise, It is good to recall just once, even for a short time. Think of this as the time to get acquainted with the methodology. We are at the beginning later, like riding a bike on level road before attempting a steep downhill. Now, why don't you recall your life through some themes? You may have several themes, but let us recall some selected themes. Today, we are going to have an outdoor class. Hi, today is very beautiful weather. We will have an outdoor class now. Here is a tree. At the ends of this tree, you will see the leaves and probably, the flowers and the fruit, which are very important the water and the nutrient transfer through these branches to the end of this tree. The tree is made of fine-roots in the ground and then the tree becomes a trunk, and leading to the branches, and the flowers, and some fruit. The life is the same. Let us think about life tree. My current state is me, but there are branches of my life. which formed myself. Let's find what are the branches of myself. Among the different branches, the first theme is relationships. Relationships are strongly interactional. People's responses differ, depending on my action and speech. My actions and speech are my habits formed over time. Therefore, it is very hard to change those habits without special attention. The self-reflection meditation makes you reflect on your self and experience the inner change by throwing away your thoughts, and habits about other people. You also reflect on your preferences and dislikes regarding people, and you can throw them away through meditation. Then your capacity to embrace people grows, which is directly related to the enhancement of the quality of your life. Now, let us start. We will begin with family relations. As soon as we are born, we imitate our mother, father and the surrounding people by just seeing them. In childhood, we think about them. Then we grow older, go to school and meet new friend. After starting colleges and starting work, the importance of relations increases as your social activities increase, right? First, let's reflect on yourself. You can explore yourself through people you recall. You are in front of the computer. Think lightly. You can open your eyes or you can close your eyes. We will do a short exercise. Can you recall your family during childhood? Recall your brothers and sisters. Whom did your parents prefer? Did you receive special attentions? Every person has different cases. Please, recall a friend from your neighborhood. Your relatives who visited your home, relatives your visited and met. There are many people on this road. But people I have relations with are friend, girlfriend, boyfriend. The people close to me are important, right? In some cases, I might have many people under my control. Or my boss? Do you have a good relationship with them? You may be good with relations. At this time, think if you can be better at relationship with people. There are people whose relationship is for nothing, except to have good interpersonal relationships. Once said that through self-reflection, he realized that he couldn't help, but fight with his girlfriend. He said that he discovered the reasons for the fights by himself. If you know the problem, the solution lies there. Please recall friends at school, teachers, close friends, friend that you fought with. Please recall now. Friends who were good at singing. Friends who were popular. Friends in class. It's been a long time since you been seen them, right? Friends that you met in middle school. Friends of your friends and school club friends, party places. High school. In university. You met people in the lecture room, you just saw them from a distance. People you met some place before. People you wanted to chat with. Friends that you went to camping together. Please recall people you met traveling during vacation and the people who you met after vacation back on campus. People on the athletic field. Do you recall these people? You have no time to meet your family when you were in university. Think of your family now. When you first saw your girlfriend or boyfriend, when you saw them the second time. Friends you got engaged. Please recall people you met in the office. We met all these people so far. What kind of relations did you have with them? Were you always popular? Does your friend envy you? We reflected on people though several things. You can open your eyes. You have people to meet again who are people you don't want to see again. Anyway, these meetings will continue. This self-reflection is the beginning of a very special experience in your life. If you couldn't recall well, it is better to watch this lecture again from the beginning or take some time to recall the relationships. You may have many events and emotions remaining in your mind, including memories you don't want to recall or sad memories and happy memories. If you want to change and be better, you have to overcome those memories. Self-reflection meditation is the methodology to overcome those. This is a very special opportunity. Next time, we will reflect only on yourself. See you next time.
