[MUSIC] See Saw is the first piece, that introduces playing with the first finger. The piece is performed with the legato bow stroke, in 6/8 time. Since the piece is so short, we play it twice, and circle the bow off at the end. Before actually playing the piece with the bow, we will practice putting the first finger down on the A string. Since we have placed tapes on the fingerboard for our first three fingers, it should be easy for the student to find the note. We want to make sure, that the student places the finger down on the pad of the finger. Not rolling over on the very tip. And not flat, but in between on the pad. When the finger comes off the string, it should be completely relaxed and turning into a wet spaghetti noodle. Okay, so if we put our first finger down on the A string, on the first finger tape what do we call that note? >> B. >> B. Good. Can you put, roll your first finger down and put it on the B. Very good. Okay, I'm going to be the bow and you're going to be the fingers and we're going to play See Saw, okay? So let's keep your hand up like this. Okay? What's our starting note? >> E. >> Good. [MUSIC] Let's roll our one down and put the B down. How many times are we going to play this? >> Six. >> Six, good. [MUSIC] Four, five, six, take it off and turn it into a noodle. [MUSIC] See Saw. [MUSIC] Good, let's put our one down. Can you tap your thumb? Let's check that thumb. Good. Six times. [MUSIC] And let's take it off and turn it into a noodle. [MUSIC] Very nice. Now, take the bow, and let's play that. I'll help you. But let's play that with the bow, and the fingers. Okay, so let's make a nice little hand frame. And we'll start on the E string, ready? [MUSIC] Now, we're going to make our bow wait. And we're going to put our first finger down on, B and play that note six times. One, two, three, four, five, six. Take it off and make it a noodle, good. [MUSIC] And again, [MUSIC] Good, tell your bow to wait. And we're going to put our first finger down. [MUSIC] And then we'll take the finger off, and let's make sure it's a noodle. Good. [MUSIC] And circle off at the end. So this time, let's have you play it by yourself, with the piano. Okay? All right. Here we go. [SOUND] Set the bar on A string, lets tap our fingers up here, slide your hand back on the magic X and set your hand right there, ready to play. Wait for the piano introduction. [MUSIC]
