[MUSIC] Today we are going to learn Twinkle with a teary T, teary T variation. Also known as Puppy Dog, Puppy Dog. We'll be using the Dutta-Shea and Marta-Lay bow stroke and the upper half of the bow. Check the fingers to make sure that they're relaxed, when they come off the string. We will also be placing the fingers one, two and three, when descending on the A string. Practice placing the fingers in this manner with many different rhythms before dropping them down at once. The student will learn to drop and block the fingers all at once when they learn the Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star theme. Okay, let's get started. >> Okay. >> So, first. Let me take your violin and bow, and we're going to clap a rhythm. So let's clap, puppy dog, puppy dog. >> Puppy dog, puppy dog. >> Good. Let's also clap, teary tea, teary tea. >> Teary tea, teary tea. >> Very good. All right, let's take your violin. Put your hand up here. And the bow. Good. Let's set the bow on the A string and now let's practice the rhythm. Two Dutta-Shea bows then one Marta-Lay. Puppy dog, puppy dog. [MUSIC] Ready play. [MUSIC] Good, your turn. [MUSIC] Very good. Let's roll the bow to the E string. [MUSIC] Ready, play. [MUSIC] Good. Let's tap that first finger. Puppy dog, puppy dog. Your turn. [MUSIC] Very good. Okay, so now let's make a sandwich. What's your favorite sandwich. >> Peanut butter. >> Peanut butter. Okay, good. So, when we make a peanut butter sandwich, what's the first thing that we need? >> Bread. >> Bread. So let's play the slice of bread. [MUSIC] Now roll the bow and tell it to wait and we're going to put one, two, three and let's tap your thumb. Good. [MUSIC] Take this one off and turn it into a noodle. [MUSIC] Take this one off. Good. [MUSIC] Good, now here comes our peanut butter. [MUSIC] Roll the bow. Make it wait. One, two, three. Tap your thumb. Good. [MUSIC] And more peanut butter. [MUSIC] Roll the bow, one, two, three. Good. [MUSIC] Good. [MUSIC] And what comes on the other side? >> Bread. >> Okay lets do the last slice of bread. [MUSIC] Put the boat away, one, two, three, tap your thumb. Good. [MUSIC] Let go. [MUSIC] Good, very good. Put your violin in rest position. Once the student has mastered this variation, they can then go on to the other variations. You can find the other rhythms we recommend, on the course page. We'll now learn to play, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It's time to learn to drop all the fingers down, so we'll practice. In the beginning, we teach the students to block all the fingers once on the A string, because it sets up a nice hand frame. Okay, let's practice. So with just our fingers, can you put your first finger down on the A string, your second and your third. That's it. And let's tap the thumb again. Now, we're going to take these fingers off but leave them very close. And then drop them down, and take them off, and down, and off, and drop. Very nice. Good and remember, don't squeeze your thumb. Okay good let's take the bow. Now, let's play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. [MUSIC] Drop. [MUSIC] Good, and I'm going to roll the bow and let's check your thumb again. Ready. Drop your shoulder. Good. [MUSIC] Drop. [MUSIC] Good. [MUSIC] And drop. [MUSIC] Good job Grace. Why don't you play it by yourself now with the piano. Okay? >> Okay. >> All right. Good. [SOUND] Remember to play with the most beautiful sound that you can. And wait for the introduction, okay? [MUSIC] Very good. [MUSIC]
