[Music] Hi Tri, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be out helping train new teachers how to navigate technology use in their classrooms? >> [Laugh] I am helping them, from my cell phone as we speak. You know, that's kind of the point of technology, isn't it? And I'm also answering an email from my new boyfriend, Newbie. [LAUGH]. I'm late for a meeting with Jimmy. He said he wants to show me some new cat videos he found. Seriously, he never gets tired of those silly cat videos. I guess I should go. >> Bye Tri, hey, if you see Jessica anywhere, can you send her in here? We're supposed to be recording a welcome video for the portfolio project right now. >> Sure, I think she's just outside experimenting with the Coursera app that I showed her how to use on her cellphone. [LAUGH] Well, see you later, gotta go. Bye. >> Elizabeth, my gosh, you'll never believe what Tri just showed me. Did you know, that you can watch our Teach English Now videos on our cellphones. This is huge, think of all the things that we could do, this is so incredible. We could do so much. >> Jessica, the camera's rolling. We're supposed to be filming our welcome video for the portfolio project right now. >> What, we're live. Right now? Okay. [SOUND] Give me a second. Okay, this is the plagiarism video, right? No? [SOUND] >> No, Jessica, the introduction video. Okay, that's right, the introduction video. [SOUND] Come on, get it together cinco, let's go. Here we go, take a deep breath. [SOUND] Hello, and welcome back to Teach English Now, and the second capstone course. >> If you're watching this video, congratulations. It means that you've successfully completed the three previous courses in this specialization. >> Now, give yourself a little pat on the back. All those lesson plans and teaching videos, they were a lot of work. Should we review those three courses quickly? >> Absolutely, great idea Jessica. The first course focused on teaching reading, writing and grammar. >> And the focus of the second course was listening, speaking and pronunciation. >> And the third course discussed- >> Integrating technology into our teaching. I'm still trying to meet Jimmy, but Google Maps sent me to Dr Shane's office. Holy cow, that man is up to his eyeballs in teacher training work, but [SOUND] now I don't know how to find Jimmy. [SOUND] >> Relax, sometimes when you're focusing on too many different things, we may lose our bearings. Remember to use early adopters or even a pedagogue when you struggle with technology or teaching. Come, let me show you the way. >> Good luck you two, hope you find him. >> [LAUGH] Okay, wow. So, now we'd like to introduce this next course to you and let you know what to expect. In the first module we'll discuss plagiarism and how to avoid it. Then we'll ask you to take your already completed reading and writing lesson plan and modify it to include some sort of technology. Remember, integrating technology has the potential to transform the learning activities. For this assignment, you'll probably have to delete some activities and add some new ones. We're asking you to do this because teachers are always modifying their lesson plans. I can't tell you how many times I've created lesson plans for a particular topic or class and then recycled, or use them again later. When you recycle your lessons plans, you may have to change and adapt them to fit the needs of the new students, new technology, new class time, etc. >> Yes, and after you modify that first reading and writing lesson plan, you'll be asked to create one more lesson plan that includes reading, writing and technology. This new lesson plan can be related to the one you already created, or it can be a totally new topic, your choice. >> After you complete each reading and writing lesson plan, you will record a six to ten minute video of you teaching a portion of your one hour lesson plan. >> In the second module you'll focus on listening and speaking lesson plans. First, you'll modify your original listening and speaking lesson plan to include technology and create a six to ten minute teaching video. Then you'll draft a second lesson plan that integrates technology with listening and speaking, and make a second teaching video. >> The third module, we'll focus on creating both a pronunciation and grammar lesson plan. This is the first time that we're asking you to create lesson plans that specifically address grammar and pronunciation individually. So be sure to pay close attention to the instructions and suggestions in the readings provided. After you create both a pronunciation and a grammar lesson plan, you will record six to ten minute teaching videos for each one hour lesson plan. >> Yes, and the focus of the fourth module is to continue to build your teacher toolbox. [SOUND] Wait, where did these come from? >> [LAUGH] Teacher toolbox, Elizabeth, toolbox. >> [LAUGH] Yes of course, the teacher toolbox. If you've already taken the first capstone course, remember that we asked you to share a teaching tip or activity with your fellow learners. Here we'll be asking you to do the same. By doing this, you will be enhancing your teacher tool box with lots of activities that you could use in your lessons. When you share your ideas you're helping other teachers save time in their lesson planning and your own as well. I mean, look at all these tips I know have in my toolbox after teaching for 13 years. Some that I made myself and some from other helpful colleagues. >> Hey, look, here's the vocabulary jigsaw activity that I gave you. And look, you still have so much room for more lesson plans and activities and ideas. >> That's right, no matter how long you've been teaching, you can always add more to your teacher tool box. >> [SOUND] >> That's absolutely correct, Elizabeth. So in the fifth module you'll prepare your final project. You're going to assemble your professional teaching portfolio, which includes all of your teaching videos, lesson plans and so on. Then you will submit your portfolio for peer review. So that you can have three more sets of eyes look through your work and give you some feedback before submitting your portfolio to us for the final review. >> In the sixth and final module, you'll be asked to reflect on this course and what you learned. You will also receive instructions for submitting your portfolio, which was peer reviewed in the previous module, to ASU for expert review. >> So once your portfolio has been reviewed by ASU, you will have completed the second specialization of Teach English Now. If you provide the links to both of your certificates from each specialization, you will receive the 150 hour T-cell certificate from ASU. If you haven't completed our first specialization and you want to receive the T-cell certificate, please go back and complete that specialization. >> Alrighty then, it's time to start gearing up for this course. Please go on to the next video on academic integrity >> And plagiarism. >> I assure you that you'll see a few familiar faces in this video. >> [LAUGH] >> Thanks for joining us today. >> And see you next time.
