[MUSIC] Let's begin with a simple concept. What is technology? >> Not even sure I can answer that. >> Let me ask the question in a different way. What do you want technology to do for you? >> I'm not sure. I guess I would like technology to, well, to help me teach. >> Of course. As an assistant, so to speak? >> Yeah. Yeah, that makes sense, like a teaching assistant. So this teaching assistant, what would his or her job description be? [SOUND] >> Whoa. I don't know some one who can communicate messages and reminders to students, help keep them on task. Someone who can answer questions for me, someone who can assign homework and provide opportunities for the students to practice. Someone who can even teach the students stuff that they're unclear on. Help me out, you know? But, technology can't do all that, can it? >> Newbie. You will see that technology can do that and much more. Imagine, if you will, a time when teachers kept all the materials in binders. >> Imagine, I still do that. >> And imagine now, that all of that material could be housed digitally. >> Sure, I have a lot of documents that I save on my computer. >> Good. Then you all ready understand that a computer can serve as the ultimate organizer, the manager of your content, so to speak. >> So you're saying that this guy, this digital teaching assistant, will keep all of my materials in one place? Okay, so how does that help me communicate with students? Don't you see, newbie? Now that you keep all your material in one place online, in the digital space you see here, you can organize it in a way that gives your learners or parents or anyone, different levels of access to that content. You can send out reminders, post pictures, videos, links and connect with students in a myriad of ways. And that dear newbie is just a start. [SOUND] Soon, you'll be ready to be taught the nine categories of technology. >> Nine, but that's too many. >> Cross referenced by six events. >> Okay, now my head is spinning. How will this make my life any easier? >> Trust me. You will see that the only way to narrow your choices, is to first recognize what they are. Knowledge, inevitably, is power and I want to give you the power to choose [MUSIC]
