So the next module will be on the topic of history of transgender people and
also experiences in arts and culture.
I think it's important to keep in mind that, though in the United States there's
been a recent explosion of media attention towards trans experiences.
Transgender people and
gender variant people of all kinds have been around since mankind's origins.
And there's sometimes a misconception that this is a new phenomenon, and
we'll attempt to address the fact that that's actually not true.
And though, often we're not recorded, the experiences of transgender people
have been present since the beginning of time across cultures, across experiences.
And given the recent explosion of media attention,
I think it's important for everyone to think critically about the ways
that trans people are exposed or are portrayed in media.
Because these are often times very affirming and
are often times problematic in certain ways.
So we have made an attempt in this module to display the experiences
of actual trans people in portraying their own art, their own media experiences,
as well as some of the ones that are portrayed by cis gendered people.
And we encourage you to think about not only what these media
are portraying, but also what the persuasive intent is behind
