By the end of this project, you will have used LibreOffice Base to write SQL queries that join related tables together to retrieve and display data from multiple tables. Since a well-designed database stores each data topic—such as “student” and “course”—in a separate table, an SQL query is often required to join tables together to get all of the data required. You will learn to do that with the WHERE clause and with the JOIN command in SQL. Note: This course works best for learners who are based in the North America region. We’re currently working on providing the same experience in other regions.

Skills you will develop

  • Data Retrieval

  • Join Tables

  • Relational Database

  • SQL

Learn step-by-step

In a video that plays in a split-screen with your work area, your instructor will walk you through these steps:

  1. Analyze a database to discover the relationships among tables as you review relational database concepts and terminology and explore the LibreOffice Base user interface.

  2. Write a LibreOffice Base SQL query with a WHERE clause that joins two tables together so that data can be retrieved from both tables in one query.

  3. Write SQL code in LibreOffice Base to retrieve data from three or more tables using a complex WHERE clause.

  4. Compare the use of the SQL WHERE clause and the SQL JOIN command for data retrieval as you write SQL code to retrieve data from multiple tables using the JOIN command in LibreOffice Base.

  5. Write SQL code in LibreOffice Base to retrieve data from multiple tables by using variations of the JOIN command, including left and right joins.
