Moving charges experience a force in a magnetic field. If these moving charges are in a wire—that is, if the wire is carrying a current—the wire should also experience a force. However, before we talk about the force exerted on a current by a magnetic field, we first examine the magnetic field generated by an electric current. We are studying two separate effects here that interact closely: (1)A current-carrying wire generates a magnetic field and (2) the magnetic field exerts a force on the current-carrying wire. By the end of this project, using wolfram notebook, learners will be able to analyze the effects of magnetic fields on moving charges and find velocity of a charge and magnetic force on a moving charge. They will also be able to determine the magnetic force on a moving charge and the radius of curvature of the path of a charge that is moving in a magnetic field. Learners will be able to calculate the Hall EMF across a current-carrying conductor & the magnetic force on a current-carrying conductor. This guided project is highly beneficial for students of AP Physics, IB Diploma SL/HL, Cambridge(AS, A Level), US, Grade 11,12th & will surely help them Ace their next physics tests .

Learn step-by-step

In a video that plays in a split-screen with your work area, your instructor will walk you through these steps:

  1. Create a trial account on the “Wolfram notebook" & do manipulation for Force as a function of moving charge, velocity and magnetic field

  2. Using Wolfram notebook, compute the magnetic force on a moving charge and practice related problem

  3. Do manipulation for radius of a curvature as a function of charge, Velocity, Mass & Magnetic field and calculate the radius of curvature of the path of a charge that is moving in a “magnetic field”

  4. Do Manipulation for EMF generated of a conductor moving in a magnetic field-Hall effect[as a function of Mag. Field, Velocity and L] & calculate the Hall EMF across a” current-carrying conductor”

  5. Calculate the magnetic force on a current-carrying conductor using Wolfram notebook
