Google Cloud Platform for Systems Operations Professionals Specialization

Google Cloud Platform for Systems Operations

Achieve fluency in enterprise cloud systems in four discipline-specific courses.

About This Specialization

This four-course accelerated specialization introduces you to the implementation of application environments and public cloud infrastructure using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Through a combination of video lectures, quizzes, and hands-on labs, you'll learn how to deploy cloud infrastructure components such as networks, systems, and applications. This specialization is designed to give participants a robust hands-on experience and is primarily lab-focused. This specialization is intended for Systems Operations professionals and Cloud Architects using Google Cloud Platform to design, create, or migrate application environments and infrastructure. This specialization is unique in that you'll actually get to work within the Google Cloud Platform production environment, develop external applications, and achieve an end-of-specialization certificate. Note: This specialization is the online equivalent to the CP100A and CPO200 instructor-led training series. CP100A is listed as Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals and CPO200 has been divided into three courses: 1) Computing, Storage and Security with Google Cloud Platform, 2) Configuration Management on Google Cloud Platform, and 3) Designing Highly Scalable Web Apps on Google Cloud Platform.

    About the Course

This course covers the details of Computing, Storage and Security on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You should be familiar with the fundamentals of working with Google Cloud Platform before working through this course. If you’re new to cloud in general, or Google Cloud Platform in particular, you should first work through our introductory course, Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals. In this course, you learn how to manage both individual and groups of instances or virtual machines and their related resources like disks and IP addresses. You also learn about creating and configuring networks and firewall rules from scratch. You learn about securely managing access to your projects using Identity and Access Management or IAM. Finally, you learn about managing Google Cloud Storage resources in your projects. Notes: • You'll need a Google/Gmail account and a credit card or bank account to sign up for the Google Cloud Platform free trial (Google is currently blocked in China). • There is a known issue with certain EU countries where individuals are not able to sign up, but you may sign up as "business" status and intend to see a potential economic benefit from the trial. More details at: https://support.google.com/cloud/answer/6090602 • More Google Cloud Platform free trial FAQs are available at: https://cloud.google.com/free-trial/
  3. COURSE 3

Configuration Management on Google Cloud Platform

    1 week of study, 4-6 hours/week
    Subtitles
    English

    About the Course

This course introduces configuration management on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Many of the concepts in this course rely on topics covered in earlier courses in the specialization, so if you haven’t yet worked through that material, you should go back and complete the first and second courses. The labs in this course also rely on work you should have completed in the labs in the previous course. If you haven’t completed the labs in the previous course you should go back and make sure you work through all the labs and have an image of the Guestbook container before moving on to the labs in this course. In this course you learn how to create and configure Cloud SQL instances. You also learn how to work with Compute Engine metadata as well as startup and shutdown scripts. These are all powerful tools that you rely on when designing and building highly available and scalable services as you will see later on in the next course. About the Course

This course covers the details of designing highly available and scalable applications and services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this course you learn how to configure autoscaling with Compute Engine instance groups. You also configure a highly available architecture to serve web content across multiple fault-tolerant instance groups in different zones using a load balancer. This part of the course also includes an introductory lab on Google Cloud Deployment Manager to help you further automate the management and deployment of Google Cloud Platform resources. Finally, this course also includes a lab to walk you through the process of turning down and deleting the projects you used in this specialization. It’s important to work through this lab to avoid being charged for resources you no longer need.
