Centered around projects, this Specialization will help you create a portfolio of work to demonstrate your new programming skills. In the capstone you will create a recommender engine similar to those used by Netflix or Amazon. Additional projects in your portfolio will include:an interactive webpage that applies filters to images, an analysis of CSV data files, an encryption program, and a predictive text generator.

Is financial aid available?
Yes, Coursera provides financial aid to learners who cannot afford the fee. Apply for it by clicking on the Financial Aid link beneath the "Enroll" button on the left. You'll be prompted to complete an application and will be notified if you are approved. You'll need to complete this step for each course in the Specialization, including the Capstone Project. You will need access to a laptop or desktop computer for Java programming. For the first course, you will need to create a free account on CodePen.io. For the remaining courses, you will need to install BlueJ, a free software environment for programming in Java. A special version of BlueJ will be provided for this Specialization.

All course videos, readings, and programming resources can be accessed for free. However, in order to receive a Specialization Certificate, you must earn and purchase a Course Certificate for each course of the Specialization and the Capstone.
