Wawasan Open University (WOU), a leading Malaysian institution, is dedicated to improving access to education through innovative distance learning programs. WOU boasts a substantial student population, with roughly 28K students enrolled over time. The university prioritizes the educational needs of working adults below the age of 40, offering a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These span various fields, including digital technology, computer science, engineering science, education, and business administration.
In a recent webinar hosted by WOU and Coursera, Dr. Lily Chan, Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor at WOU, discussed the role of online partnerships in transforming distance learning programs.Â
Reimagining open learning in MalaysiaÂ
WOU strategically integrates credit-eligible content from Coursera’s library into up to 50% of select courses, aligning with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF). This gives students access to Professional Certificates and other content on Coursera from partners such as Duke University, Meta, and IBM, so they can build job-relevant skills in areas like data science, digital marketing, and AI.
WOU also uses Coursera’s generative AI (GenAI) innovations to deliver personalized learning experiences while ensuring academic integrity. Tools like Course Builder enable WOU’s faculty to design tailored and comprehensive lesson plans, and AI-powered question banks help create rigorous assessments efficiently. These innovations enhance student learning and support faculty in providing high-quality learning.
