About the Course

Go beyond the chat box. Use API access to leverage LLMs into your own applications, and learn to build a custom chatbot. In ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers, you will learn how to use a large language model (LLM) to quickly build new and powerful applications. Using the OpenAI API, you’ll be able to quickly build capabilities that learn to innovate and create value in ways that were cost-prohibitive, highly technical, or simply impossible before now. This short course taught by Isa Fulford (OpenAI) and Andrew Ng (DeepLearning.AI) will describe how LLMs work, provide best practices for prompt engineering, and show how LLM APIs can be used in applications for a variety of tasks, including: - Summarizing (e.g., summarizing user reviews for brevity) - Inferring (e.g., sentiment classification, topic extraction) - Transforming text (e.g., translation, spelling & grammar correction) - Expanding (e.g., automatically writing emails) In addition, you’ll learn two key principles for writing effective prompts, how to systematically engineer good prompts, and also learn to build a custom chatbot. All concepts are illustrated with numerous examples, which you can play with directly in our Jupyter notebook environment to get hands-on experience with prompt engineering...

I think this project is great start to use LLM features like summarizing, inferring, transforming and expanding. By using these, a chatbot can be developed for small useful purposes. Thank you.

The ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers course by DeepLearning.AI offers a well-structured and beginner-friendly introduction to using large language models (LLMs) via the OpenAI API. The core concepts of prompt engineering and illustrates practical use cases such as summarization, inference, text transformation, and expansion. One of the highlights of the course is the integrated Jupyter notebook environment, which allows learners to experiment with code directly on the platform without any additional setup. This hands-on approach makes it easy to apply the techniques being taught and is particularly helpful for those who prefer learning by doing. While the course content is solid, I found that much of it covered basic concepts that I was already familiar with. I was hoping for more advanced coding examples, or deeper guidance on integrating prompt engineering into larger or more complex real-world applications. More examples on how to improve prompt performance or troubleshoot common challenges in production environments would have been valuable additions. Overall, it's a great starting point for those new to LLMs and prompt engineering, and the polished learning experience makes it accessible and engaging. For developers with some prior experience, however, it might feel a bit too introductory.

Great short course to learn how to build prompts yourself (instead of another 10 best prompts to do X). The side-by-side videos and Jupyter environment (which just works out of the box) is great to do some hands-on experimenting in Python. Also gave me some nice inspiration for possibilities with LLMs in general (and ChatGPT in particular).

I recently completed the ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers course on Coursera. The course provided invaluable insights into crafting effective prompts for AI interactions, enhancing both user experience and AI performance. Highly recommended for developers looking to optimize their AI applications!

It's a very nice brief introduction to prompt engineering, it covers a lot of prompting techniques. Yet, it will be nice if there's an actual project/challenges to complete instead of just instructing the learner to 'play around'
