About the Course

Great help in continuing my education on the French language. It's also very useful in learning how to navigate some of the things you may encounter as a foreign student arriving in France. :)

The course is quite challenging at first, completing quizzes and meeting deadlines can seem hectic. But some components like the listening (expression orale), writing and reading components are quite engaging. A lot of new traditions and insights of the french culture are explained.

Fue muy dinámico. Tambien se aprende de la cultura francesa. Hubo una caricatura de una persona insinuando que tenia mucha edad para entrar a la universidad. Es discriminatorio.

Hearing the exact pronunciation or enunciation of words is of high importance, adding random music to the lesson is extremely distracting. The level is too advanced for "intermediate", the female character in video two makes a sign that I find offensive on a religion basis (puts index and thumb together - irrelevant to the lesson or topic - with one or both hands). The characters speak too fast. In the airplane video, the man in the left runs his words together like they do in Texas! Often it's hard to say what a Texan says - when you first arrive - imagine trying to figure out what is said in French when you're trying to learn and the words are overlapped.

Si tuviese traducción a español sería mucho más fácil, pero es un buen curso introductorio.

This course was a waste of time and money. I did the whole thing hoping it would get better but there are some some serious issues. First this was not at B1-B2 level. I am a teacher and asked colleagues who teach FSL and they confirmed this was way above intermediate. The readings were pulled from books that I assume would be read in high school and university. The movie clips, while coming from great movies, contained a lot slang and the speaking was far too fast. There was no commentary or explanation, just "here's a video, enjoy!" Second, the grammar videos were far too dense. Each video could have been 3-4 videos with a quiz in between to check for understanding. Instead, it was just a word salad, rife with technical jargon and few examples. For each grammar lesson, I was able to find content on YouTube that explained the concept twice as well in half the time. Finally, the amount of irrelevant information and assessments is crazy. Early on in the course I took detailed notes of every video thinking I might need it for the next assignment, only to find out the next assignment was about something unrelated. The worst case was the last video about French cuisine. The video itself was fascinating, but the quiz was about something completely different: idioms. The only resource they provided to puzzle out the meaning of the idioms was a poorly organized website. I've had other gripes over the last six weeks I'm sure, but these are the ones that come to mind right now. Overall, this course is a waste of time money. Spend your money on a month of rocket French or Babel. You'll learn more.
