Working knowledge of U.S. corporate income tax concepts (book-tax differences, deferred taxes, net operating losses, effective tax rate) and familiarity with the shape of a tax research memo. You'll analyze new statutory updates with multi-turn Copilot prompts — mapping what changed, who it applies to, when it takes effect, and what must be elected — then applying those provisions to your own fact pattern to extract the corporate tax implications and rank the risk areas by exposure. You'll then evaluate Copilot-sourced references before they reach a research note, using three tests that catch the three distinct failures: the authority that does not exist, the one that has been superseded, and the real, current one that does not reach your facts. Verification gets recorded in a form a reviewer can follow, because the due-diligence standard applies to the practitioner regardless of what produced the draft. Finally, you'll create a first-draft corporate tax provision memo in Copilot that states its assumptions, owns its uncertainties, and recommends an action a manager can accept or reject — and defend that draft in a review with a tax manager who wants to know which numbers are assumptions and where the tool did the work. By the end of this course, learners will be able to: - Analyze new statutory updates with multi-turn Copilot prompts to extract relevant corporate tax implications and risk areas. - Evaluate Copilot-sourced references by verifying citations and assessing source credibility before incorporating them into tax research notes. - Create a first-draft corporate tax provision memo in Copilot that articulates assumptions, uncertainties, and recommended actions for managerial review.
