In this Specialization, you'll move from your first Android screen to a complete cross-platform mobile app that you can show an employer. You'll start in Android Studio with Kotlin, then build for both Android and iOS using React Native and Expo, and finish by designing and building an app of your own.
Along the way, you'll set up development environments, run apps on Android emulators and iOS simulators, and lay out screens with LinearLayout, Flexbox, and styled-components. You'll handle touch events and forms, validate input with Formik and Yup, render efficient lists with FlatList and SectionList, and manage state with useState, useReducer, the Context API, and Redux. You'll also store data locally with AsyncStorage, fetch live data from REST APIs, schedule notifications, and build APK files.
These are the everyday tasks of mobile developers, front-end developers, and engineers who focus on UI and UX. The Specialization fits two groups: developers moving into mobile development, and web developers who already know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React.
By the end of this Specialization, you'll be able to:
Build and test native Android apps in Android Studio using Kotlin, layouts, and widgets
Develop cross-platform Android and iOS apps in React Native with navigation, styling, and state management
Design UX wireframes in Figma and write user stories that guide your development tasks

Each course is built around hands-on work. In the Android labs, you'll install Android Studio, run apps on emulators, build login and registration screens with LinearLayout and ScrollView, and generate code with the Gemini plugin. The course closes with a fitness tracker app that validates user input and calculates calories burned.
The React Native labs cover more ground. You'll scaffold projects with Expo CLI; test on Android emulators and the iOS simulator; style components with Flexbox; implement stack, tab, and drawer navigation; and build APK files. You'll also complete a news article practice app and a recipe app with category filtering, detail pages, and favorites.
The capstone is an app of your own design, built across multiple labs and graded tasks. You'll set up a GitHub repository, write user stories, and wireframe several screens in Figma. You'll then add signup and login, a home screen, detail screens, local storage, an external API, and reminders.
