Ce que vous apprendrez

  • Trace a request from a user's prompt through the model server to the GPU and back.

  • Explain how vLLM batches users, manages GPU memory, and serves LLM responses at scale.

  • Identify why traditional load balancing fails for LLM traffic and how llm-d solves it.

  • Build a working vLLM server that handles multiple concurrent requests in a hands-on lab.

Il y a 4 modules dans ce cours

This module starts at the hardware and works upward. You'll see what a model actually is as a file of numbers, what it takes to load one into GPU memory, and why a GPU with a model sitting on it still cannot serve a single user. That gap is what a model server fills, and vLLM is the server you will follow for the rest of the course.

This module follows a single request through the model. You'll see why a model writes one token at a time, what causes the pause before an answer begins and the stream that follows, and what the model keeps on its scratchpad between tokens. Reusing that saved work turns out to be the biggest lever in the whole of LLM serving.

One user on one GPU is easy. This module breaks that comfort. You'll batch many users onto a single GPU and run into the memory ceiling, slice a model too large for any single GPU across several of them, and then discover that the load balancer the industry has trusted for decades makes exactly the wrong choice for this kind of traffic.

This module brings in llm-d, the open source project from Red Hat, Google, IBM, and NVIDIA built for exactly the problems the last module raised. You'll see how it routes each request to the server that already holds your cached work, why it separates prompt-reading from answer-writing, and how the whole thing runs as real pods on a Kubernetes cluster. It closes on where this leaves you as an infrastructure engineer.
