Il y a 5 modules dans ce cours

Good management depends not only on what gets done, but on how work gets done. In this module, you’ll learn to view managerial work through a process lens and examine how repeatable patterns of activity shape organizational outcomes. You’ll explore how processes create consistency and coordination, while also generating signals that can help managers recognize when assumptions no longer match changing conditions. You’ll also examine the challenge general managers face in remaining consistent in how they think while being versatile in how they respond to different situations. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to analyze how processes shape performance, interpret deviations as opportunities for learning, and assess how consistency and versatility influence managerial effectiveness.

Pressure can make acting quickly feel more important than getting the decision process right. In this module, you’ll examine how managers make consequential decisions when time is limited, information is incomplete, and stakeholders are demanding action. Through the experience of Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) and its Line 5 crisis, you’ll explore the risks of premature problem framing and learn to approach decision-making as a process built around three elements: conflict, consideration, and closure. You’ll consider how constructive disagreement can improve decisions, why people need to believe their perspectives have been genuinely considered, and how managers determine when it is time to commit to action. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to structure a decision-making process that surfaces alternatives, incorporates different perspectives, and reaches closure without acting prematurely.

Experience does not automatically produce learning. In this module, you’ll examine how managers turn implementation into a source of information about how an organization actually works. Following Tim Murray’s early experiences at Alba, you’ll explore the learning cycle and distinguish between single-loop learning, which corrects problems within existing assumptions, and double-loop learning, which questions the assumptions themselves. You’ll also consider how friction, delays, workarounds, and recurring deviations can reveal deeper patterns in organizational systems—and why recognizing a problem does not always mean acting on it immediately. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to interpret implementation as a source of managerial learning, distinguish between surface-level corrections and deeper inquiry, and determine when continued learning may be more valuable than immediate intervention.

Recognizing what needs to change is different from making change endure. In this module, you’ll examine how managers translate accumulated learning into organizational change by redesigning the processes, expectations, and routines that shape everyday behavior. Returning to Tim Murray’s experience at Alba, you’ll explore how changes in safety practices were used to clarify expectations, create ownership, build belief, and reinforce new behaviors. You’ll then consider one of the most difficult challenges of organizational change: preventing regression when pressure increases or leadership attention shifts elsewhere. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to analyze change as a process-driven activity, identify mechanisms that help institutionalize new ways of working, and evaluate whether change has become embedded in the organization or still depends on the leader.

Managing through a process perspective requires more than designing reliable ways of getting work done. Managers must also recognize when results signal that a process should be questioned, structure decisions that surface and consider different perspectives, learn from implementation, and translate accumulated learning into change that can endure. In this final module, you’ll bring these ideas together into an integrated view of managerial work. You’ll revisit how process, decision-making, learning, and organizational change connect—and how each informs the next. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to determine which managerial lens a situation requires and apply the concepts from across the course to evaluate how an organization should respond.
