There are 3 modules in this course

This module develops the quantitative framework of population genetics. You will calculate allele frequencies, apply the Hardy–Weinberg law, and analyze how mating systems, inbreeding, drift, migration, selection, mutation, and linkage disequilibrium shape genetic variation. You will also examine measures of variation and biological and social applications, including molecular clocks and domestication bottlenecks.

What's included

6 readings11 assignments

This module examines the inheritance of complex and quantitative traits. You will measure quantitative variation, separate genetic and environmental components, compare broad- and narrow-sense heritability, and consider interaction effects. You will then examine QTL mapping in known pedigrees and association mapping in random-mating populations.

What's included

6 readings12 assignments

This module examines evolution from changes in genes and genomes to changes in traits and species. You will analyze evolution by natural selection, follow an exemplary case of selection in action, and investigate molecular evolution and the evolution of genes, genomes, traits, and species. By the end of the module, you will be able to connect genetic change at multiple levels to evolutionary outcomes.
