Each indexed segment carries the start and end time it came from, so retrieval can return a moment rather than a whole file. That metadata also lets you constrain a query to a time range and lets answers cite exactly where the supporting content appears.

Grounding comes from prompt design that instructs the model to answer only from the supplied segments and to say when the answer is not present, combined with citations that point back to timestamps. The course covers both, and Course 3 then measures how well grounding holds using a groundedness metric.
