Through this course, I have gained invaluable skills that will, among other things, help me conduct academic research and continue to advance public health as a dietitian.

This course provides an introduction to evaluating public health programs at scale. This course focuses on evaluating public health programs and policies in low- and middle-income countries, however, core skills of designing and carrying out an evaluation are applicable to any public health programs and policies. The course will equip you with skills to: 1. Critique an evaluation of an international health program, identifying its strengths and possible weaknesses and how they could be addressed. 2. Develop a technically-sound evaluation plan for a reproductive, maternal, newborn, child health (RMNCAH) and nutrition program being implemented at scale in a low- or middle-income country, including evaluation design, key indicators, measurement methods, analysis, and communication of results. 3. Guide program managers and donors through a process of agreeing on priority evaluation activities included in an evaluation plan for a specific RMNCAH and nutrition program. 4. Make informed decisions about whether they want to pursue further learning and/or a professional role as an evaluator of large-scale programs. The development of this course was supported by a grant from Government Affairs Canada (GAC) for the Real Accountability, Data Analysis for Results (RADAR) project.

As a public health practictioner who has a graduate degree, I wanted to discover courses that could enhance my professionalism and comeptency the domain of evaluation. With an undegraduate in Health Behavior Science, and a graduate degree in Public Health Practice, I took approximately 2 or 3 evaluation courses in total.
I was absolutely astounded by the quality of content provided by John Hopkins University. For $50, you are able to obtain a multitude of presentations deliberating on evaluation on the global health level. I do not work in global health but I am currently a grant project director. I felt sincerely felt obligated to purchase the certificate because the quality of this course is truly equivlent to an undergraduate course. John Hopkins never fails to dissapoint. There is a prime example of why they are one of the best public schools on planet Earth. Major respect and kudos to the creator.
This course was a great learning experience where I learnt to evaluate the program by breaking it down into different components and analyze each component rather than finding a binomial answers if the project worked or not. This was similar to assessment for learning.
