After completing this course, students will learn how to successfully apply functions to model different data and real world occurrences. This course reviews the concept of a function and then provide multiple examples of common and uncommon types of functions used in a variety of disciplines. Formulas, domains, ranges, graphs, intercepts, and fundamental behavior are all analyzed using both algebraic and analytic techniques. From this core set of functions, new functions are created by arithmetic operations and function composition. These functions are then applied to solve real world problems. The ability to picture many different types of functions will help students learn how and when to apply these functions, as well as give students the geometric intuition to understand the algebraic techniques. The skills and objectives from this course improve problem solving abilities.

I still have much room for improvement, but the first two courses in the Elementary Algebra series have been a great re-introduction to key college algebra topics. I plan to continue to enroll in additional courses and continue to move forward in my mathematics training. This have been very worthwhile for me and I highly recommend these courses.
I used this to review some Algebra before taking a Calculus course. This overview of functions was perfect for that purpose. For whatever reason, the algebra problems in the Johns Hopkins courses have been so beneficial for me. They really solidify my understanding of the concepts, and offers a valuable glimpse into their applications. If this is your first time going through these concepts, I'd highly recommend pairing it with other material, like Khan Academy. If you're just looking for a quick review, this course is one of the best quick overviews of algebra you're likely to find.
Pleas make more questions to practice that are similar to the questions on the quizes and final. The second week needs a video to explain how to apply the equations to the word probles given on the quizies and final.
This course was very good and also very challenging. The videos do present the information and the reading assignments have the necessary information needed. The test seem to be on another level given the problems
and the values used. revealed how much I had forgotten when it came to solving the algebra and advanced algebraic functions.
Still enjoy being challenged and humbled by this course and what it took to understand enough to compete the

It is a brief, compact class of Precalculus (Relations and Functions) from the same Online Instructor in Coursera. It gives more emphasis in the derivation and solving of a mathematical model by using Elementary Algebra and Calculus-based techniques. I am very impressed by the teaching and material quality on some specific concepts not so well explained on the common classes in High-School or University Algebra and Calculus. Thank you!
i enjoyed the course very much, it has all the fundamentals, and it trains with real life situation, how ever exams can be a little bit tougher than examples in the teachers video, but i suggest it to every new or even second year university students especially for engineers
