Bio

Dan Hendrycks is the founder of the Center for AI Safety. He earned his PhD in computer science from UC Berkeley. He is the creator of the field's foundational evaluations, including MMLU, MATH, and Humanity's Last Exam. He has contributed the GELU activation function (the most-used activation in state-of-the-art models including BERT, GPT, Vision Transformers, etc.). He wrote an Introduction to AI Safety, Ethics, and Society as well as a national security strategy, Superintelligence Strategy. He has extensively advised AI companies such as xAI and Meta. He was recognized as a Schmidt Sciences AI2050 Early Career Fellow, one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People in AI, and Forbes 30 Under 30.
