By the end of this course, learners will understand how AHU control sequences are translated into BMS control logic and controller programs. They will learn how sensors, setpoints, interlocks, alarms, schedules, PID control, digital outputs, and analog outputs work together to control fans, dampers, and heating or cooling devices in an Air Handling Unit.

Through guided demonstrations, practical examples, simulations, and troubleshooting scenarios, learners will explore how AHU control logic is developed, tested, and validated. They will also learn to identify common programming and control issues, interpret system responses, and use operating data to troubleshoot abnormal AHU behavior. This course builds on basic BMS and AHU knowledge and prepares learners for more advanced work in BMS interface design, commissioning, diagnostics, and building automation controls.

This module introduces the fundamentals of BMS programming environments, tools, and programming languages used for HVAC automation. Learners will explore different programming interfaces and understand how languages such as Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram, and Sequential Function Chart are used to develop BMS control logic. The module also demonstrates how basic programming concepts can be applied to AHU airflow regulation to support efficient, automated, and responsive HVAC operation.
