About the Course

Do you want to know why data science has been labeled the sexiest profession of the 21st century? After taking this course, you will be able to answer this question, understand what data science is and what data scientists do, and learn about career paths in the field. The art of uncovering insights and trends in data has been around since ancient times. The ancient Egyptians used census data to increase efficiency in tax collection and accurately predicted the Nile River's flooding every year. Since then, people have continued to use data to derive insights and predict outcomes. Recently, they have carved out a unique and distinct field for the work they do. This field is data science. In today's world, we use Data Science to find patterns in data and make meaningful, data-driven conclusions and predictions. This course is for everyone and teaches concepts like how data scientists use machine learning and deep learning and how companies apply data science in business. You will meet several data scientists, who will share their insights and experiences in data science. By taking this introductory course, you will begin your journey into this thriving field....

Very learning experience, I am a beginner in DS, but the instructors in this course simplified the contents that made me I could easily understand, tools and materials were very helpful to start with.

Great course for starting with the data science. I really liked the format of asking the real data scientists the questions about their work - their insights were very helpful.

Giving 4 out of 5 just because of the quizzes - they test some strange knowledge, like "in what company worked the person who said that thing". About 50% of the questions, including the final exam, are completely unrelated to the data science topic.

Excellent effort by whoever designed this course, however i think the course should include some real life case studies to better help understand the Scope of the field of data science. Or some real life examples like my instructor once told story about how Facebook and Walmart and some other business giants have used data science to reach success. it will kind of help motivate fresh graduates to move into this field.

First, I'd like to say thank you for providing me the opportunity to learn skills that feed my curiosity.

I'd like to point out that I failed to realize that one needed to share their final submission via a link, and post them in the discussion board. There may be more people after me that make the same mistake, so may I suggest adding an extra reminder/instruction regarding the means to complete the final submission.

4 stars means i give positive review. Minus 1 Start, as for example for this: In the “Many Paths to Data Science” video, what did the speaker initially want to be before finding data science more interesting? -> such quiz questions are so annoying. My review is not influence by one human voice that was soooo annoying - no idea what USA dialect is that, but my ears ache when I hear those eaeaaeaea waves...

A well-communicated introduction that provides a succinct summary of the field for those interested in a career in it but unsure where to start. After completion, I now feel I have a much stronger understanding of what I need to learn and the skills I must develop. I would have preferred some more hands-on exercises, but on balance the content is appropriate for an introductory course such as this.

I started on this course and encountered various issues on course 1. I was not able to open the video or the pdf file on the topic "Data Science: The sexiest job in the 21 st century". But the issue was with my internet service provider which was trying to stop access to the IBM Cloud. When I sorted this issue, everything went very well and I earned a certificate after completion of the course.

Its an absolute wonder of a course, especially the structure of the course/quizs and summaries. However, i felt like theres a huge amount of new vocabulary, combined with a fast stream of new information due to the fact that this course seem to have a very high density of information- in my opinion of course, which made it hard for me to grasp thinsg fully even after replaying and rolling back.

Please be consistent when asking true/false questions. Sometimes you put true first and sometimes you put false first. I selected the incorrect answer to a couple of the true/false questions because I instinctively thought the first response was true and second was false. I should pay more attention, but setting up the answers consistently would probably help students achieve better grades.

The course videos and assignments are solid, until we get to the final assignment. As an educator myself, I appreciate the value of peer-reviewed assignments. However, I waited over a week to get 3 peer assignments to review in order to finish the course. It might be ideal for students who are waiting only for their peer reviews to be permitted to move onto the next course while they wait.

It's a super super introduction to data science. Best for high school/undergrad students with no experience in data science or related fields. Not even introduction to concepts as it dances around those, but more of a first-hand perspective from data scientists and educators of what data science entails before anyone should decide whether or not to move forward on a career in data science.

Very well structured and plenty of interviews with really experienced people (Academia, Business and Experts). The slides catch our attention and the articles are very good. The only thing I'd recommend is to unlock the pdfs files, we can't copy or highlight anything in the files, beside that, would be hepfull to have the transcriptions of the audios in a text file format (word, pdf etc)

This course provides a good overview of what data science is, what data scientist do across different industries and the skills they possess. Having interviews with professionals within the industry give it credibility. I wish in some of the example they went a bit deeper into the mechanics and approach, but I suppose you can only accomplish so much in a broad, introductory course.

Course was overall very helpful to get you situated in the world of data science. Don't scoff at how "big picture" this course might seem. This is the stuff that helps you talk about data science without sounding like you're clueless. However, there were slight issues with audio quality and text typos throughout. Removing a star for those issues, but overall it was a good course.

Solid content, presented well overall. Guidance for Watson exercise does not match up with current Watson interface, so some extra effort is required to fill in the gaps and complete that exercise. May be more challenging for some folks than others. Final quiz and grading do not line up with course materials, leading to confusion. In summary, good course but needs a few updates.

The course provides a good definition of data science and a data scientist and it's different uses in the industry. In the industry, data science is again divided into data engineering, data science and data analytics and employers are also hiring for these as 3 different roles. It would be nice to provide an explanation on these different roles as part of data science course.

This course served as a solid high-level introductory course to Data Science as a topic. I feel confident in explaining the very most basic concepts of this topic thanks to this course. I think the course could be improved by including more examples of what Data Science projects look like. For example, data visualization is mentioned frequently, but there are no data visuali

The course is good but the support in case of issue is absent or very slow (at least).

When I try to repeat a quiz that I did not pass, the website just drag me again in the summary page in a kind of infinite loop.

How many days shall I wait prior I can re-do the quiz? I do not infinite time to study and now that I have the it I am stuck on a quiz that I can't repeat.

Awful.

This was my first course in the Data Science Domain and I'm happy I followed through with it. Learning to online courses require perseverance unlike a classroom course where you are under obligation to learn and this course had very apt study materials. The peer graded assignments is a real motivator; Knowing there are others out there grading your course and vice versa.

Videos and reading materials are excellent. Videos explains the concepts of Data science, Data mining, type of data, who and how data are generated accumulated very beautifully. Narration by key figures is also very helpful. Only complain is with reading materials, it seems is copy of pages from book, I think document style layout will be readable and more eye friendly

The course was informational, and even provided access to IBM Watson, which I found to be fascinating. However, with that being said, I would have liked a little hands-on work as well, where we are asked to analyze a sample dataset and come to a conclusion with a given background and proposed hypothesis. Of course, hints and help would be available along the way.

It was basic overview of what data science is and what attributes and skills are needed to be a data scientist. Its a good overview for the beginner and videos are well presented. However there are some typos in the readings that need to be corrected as well as an update for the instructions for using IBM Watson since Watson has been changed just a little bit.

The course introduces to some terms such as Data Science, ML, DL... It shows to the student lots of examples where data science is currently being implemented and for what can be used. Perfect for someone who is starting in the Data field and/or wants to get to know if it is what he/she is looking for. Useless for a person who is already working on the topic.

Some of the videos and modules contained content that seemed to stray from the primary topic of the module and were distantly relevant to the subject at hand. That said, I think the course overall did a great job of providing a general description of where data science fits into modern society, where it is going, and what being a data scientist entails.

A great class, and a good introduction to Data Science. Did not dive too deep into data science and there were not enough problems to solve, but I think if you are very new in the data world, I think this class is great but if you have some experience in data for example taken some math classes or some coding class then this class may be very simple.
