Build a toolkit of communication skills that will give you the knowledge and confidence to be an effective engineering leader. Engineers who want to advance in their profession need to be effective communicators. They need to clearly communicate complex ideas and technical project plans. They also need to be strong persuaders. Engineers who are good communicators get recognized by their supervisors and by their clients. In this three-course Specialization, you will practice designing and giving strong, persuasive presentations; you will learn how to communicate across cultures, genders, and generations, how to create your personal brand and leadership presence, how to hold effective meetings with global teams; you will learn how to handle difficult conversations, and how to handle crisis communication; you will also learn writing skills immediately applicable in your daily activities. Courses are taught by faculty from the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL). RCEL is focused on developing engineering leaders within Rice University at the undergraduate, master's and PhD levels. It is home to one of a very few academically approved Certificates in Engineering Leadership.

I loved the practical nature of the course. Engaging in the course activities really created an avenue to improve my skills.

This course made me work for the grade more than most. I would like to see grading rubics for the assignments BEFORE I have to turn them in so I know what I am being graded on. A lot of video presentations were required in this course, and I had to invest and upgrade my webcam to capture a good video on the final presentation. Overall, this was a good course, and probably the hardest course for me out of the nine required for the Engineering Leadership and Management certificate.
Five weeks ago, I wouldn't think about recording myself presenting. To be honest, I would look for any excuse to get away from it. This course pushed me in the right direction, I learned a lot and ended up with 10+ videos presenting different topics.
This course helped me to understand the Basic of Presentation Skill
Good for Engineering Leaders.
I really like the challenge to record yourself and practice. If you are not willing to do that - don't take the course. You can't get better in speaking - by reading. Leave your comfort zone and give it a try - it works.

Very practical course, involves a lot of peer graded assignments. A great opportunity to practice and improve your oral communication skills.
The professor was very good
but there is a lot of assignments !!!
a lot of record videos !!! every week !!! and the assignments it was very long for example 20 instruction for every assignment it is very boring
many people don't like record videos it is a bad idea
It is a very good course. By this course we can improve oral communication skills.
This is very helpfull course in the Engineering .
its amazing course to improve our skill
Awesome course !
The course is great, it provides valuable insights into how to communicate and create effective presentations and pushes you out of your comfort zone with the capstone projects. I have already applied this course's techniques at work with great effect. However, the only reason it does not get 5 starts is due to the difficulty of the peer review process (which is not the course's fault but Coursera's). A lot of fellow learners simply do not take the course seriously, do not engage in useful discussion, and just outright do not do the assignments.

But the class of 1st was good ...
Great experience
worst ever. remove peer review. people internally fail us to remove competition. 🤬
Hard to complete
I learned in this course about techniques in oral communication. Where an introvert like me is starting to get out of my shell and see the values of professional presentation. I learned to video record myself, which I actually hated prior to enrolling. And now started to view the areas for me to improve.
