I took a medical billing course on Coursera to gain a foundational understanding of the field, and overall, it was a great learning experience. The course was well-structured, covering essential topics like medical terminology, insurance claims, coding systems (CPT, ICD, and HCPCS), and the revenue cycle. I appreciated the flexibility of being able to learn at my own pace, which made it easier to balance with other commitments. The instructors explained complex billing concepts in a clear and simple way, making it accessible for beginners. However, I found that the course lacked hands-on practice, as there weren’t many interactive exercises or real-world claim processing tasks. Additionally, while the knowledge gained was valuable, the course alone isn’t enough for career placement since industry certification, such as CPC or CBCS, is still required. Overall, I would recommend Coursera’s medical billing courses to anyone looking for an introduction to the field, but for those seeking job-ready training, additional certification and hands-on experience would be necessary.
