I learned so much with this course and it gave me the perspective and motivation to write even with my imperfections.

I would have given the course 5 stars because of how the instructor's essay, "When the Monster Saves You"resonated with me. In addition, I understood the way she spoke, no highfalutin academia talk, just straight from her heart. The downside of the course was the peer discussion sections. This is my second Coursera writing course and the peer discussion section is still the same. There is a reluctance to critique each other's work. I think I was the only one who commented and that was because I thought I had to. I could see that some of the writers were more accomplished than myself and although I would have profited from their ideas, I honestly don't know if I could have taken the criticism well. Maybe we students want to be critiqued by the writers responsible for the course, not necessarily the instructor whom might be too busy. I know that I would find that easier to take because I expect it, maybe because they are supposed to be the professionals. I hate admitting that I don't take criticism well but I think it's true of a lot of us. Anyway, my point is that peer discussions don't work and should probably be excluded from the curriculum.

It is a good introductory course for the specialization, but I expected more practical suggestions.

GOOD EXPERIENCE

The idea of the course is good. The references are good. It needs a little more polish

We didn't really learn many techniques, and the quiz questions asked us about things that we didn't go over.

I was uncomfortable with the way the first reading assignment insinuated that someone who was arrested on sexual misconduct with a minor is "good," simply because they were good to the author.
