Learn how to engage your students and enhance learning in math and science with free virtual labs and simulations from the University of Colorado Boulder's PhET Interactive Simulations project (https://phet.colorado.edu/en). In this specialization, you will explore active learning strategies that you can incorporate into your own classroom, either online or in person. You will also learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of a learning experience by implementing a simulation-based lesson in your own classroom. Founded in 2002 by Nobel Prize winner in physics Carl Wieman, the PhET Interactive Simulations project creates free simulations for science and mathematics that are based on extensive educational research on the design of virtual tools for education and how to successfully implement them in the classroom. This specialization will take approximately 8 weeks (at the suggested pace of 2 weeks per course) and 60 working hours to complete, and includes four courses: (1) Introduction to PhET Simulations for STEM Education (2) Whole Class with PhET for STEM Education (3) Activity Design with PhET Simulations for STEM education (4) Implementation of PhET Activities for STEM education This specialization is also available in Spanish under the name "Aprendizaje Activo STEM con Simulaciones Interactivas PhET" and in Portuguese under the name "Aprendizagem Ativa STEM com Simulações Interativas PhET".

This is really a great way to teach and learn. Much easier for learners to understand. PhET sims must be accessible to all learners.
I enjoyed the pace and the presentation of the course materials. Although I have used Phet simulations for years, the assignments helped me to explore more about what Phet has to offer, both through the variety of simulations and the teaching techniques presented in the course. I would give 5 stars except for some frustration with the assignment format. I encountered several times when sections of coursework were labeled as optional but were actually required. I didn't mind completing the optional tasks but they added unplanned time to the completion of the coursework.

Introduction to PhET Simulations for STEM Education is an excellent course, that develops the competencies & skills, to introduce the use of Active Learning as a pedagogical strategy to use PhET sims in subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology among others.
In addition, other techniques to accompany PhET, such as, Concept Questions & Peer Instruction, Whole Class Inquiry, and Interactive Lecture Demonstrations are taught and showcased with examples, descriptions, and videos.
The peer to peer method of evaluation gives also a great opportunity to develop the technique for further applications in our own classes, adding the PhET sims.
PhET helps to develop intuition and the scientific method in STEM subjects.

At the end of this course I found out that students should view challenges as opportunity. As a teacher I should experiment with different teaching methods and learning strategies. It's also good to celebrate growth because growth mindset is more better than fixed mindset Students should also make connections to everyday life. It's also good to foster a supportive goal oriented learning environment. . In conclusion students should take and sense ownership of their learning experience. Then teacher s should make use of Phet simulations to teach tough Topics
