I was very glad to learn the foundations of ecology in this edifying course. Prof. Scott Solomon's lectures are lucid and very well structured. The material is easy to learn but substantive. This knowledge complements perfectly what I learned in his Intro to Evolution course. I am now on to Dr. Solomon's third course. On to Biodiversity! Thank you, Rice University! :)

I enjoyed this course, and you can see that Professor Solomon put a lot of time and energy into it, including bringing in knowledgeable guests and doing little skits with them.

I do wish the course went more in-depth with some topics; although I know it's a beginner-level course, some of the content seemed more simplified than other courses of the same level. Additionally, my favorite part was the video lesson in the 7th module, when Professor Solomon was interacting with the elephants. I think the best online courses are those where the instructor isn't just reading a script the whole time, and I wish the instructor talked a little more naturally about the material (like he does with the elephants) to make the videos more like traditional learning. I did get a lot out of this course, though, and I plan to do the specialization.

I really enjoyed this subject and felt that the content was pitched at the right level for someone who hasn't studied biology since secondary school (several decades ago). I plan on studying the other two units in the specialisation because I am keen to learn more!

This course is so good! I want to keep taking it over and over again. The ability to watch the videos packed with information over and over and make notes online, is so flexible it allowed to be more mobile, to walk, to run, to sit down and focus, and listen. All of the additional links to other resources to explore really helped me bring everything together. The openstax textbook is awesome. The option to take notes within the textbook and use the different color highlights was really useful to me. I could organize my highlights by main ideas, definitions, interesting facts, and so on. The notes provided are really great, too. The foundational layout gave me inspiration to think differently, a little more creatively. It's a really good course, really well done. THANK YOU! I'm looking forward to the next one, Evolution!

I thought Dr. Solomon was very likeable and I overall really enjoyed the course. The backdrops for the interviews with guest scientists were super cheesy but the content of each interview was very interesting. I plowed through this course because I liked it so much! Highly recommend. Remember that you'll get out of the course what you put into it, so I recommend taking advantage of the optional discussion boards and readings.

First of all, thank you for made this great and رery simple and clear language. It is a great course for the who is alike me have no deep knowledge about ecology and study other aspect of science like Geography. Now I have a deep understanding about many rules of ecology that will help me to have a better perspective about the our environments.

The teacher is really engaging and passionate. You can tailor the course to yourself as you go, there are optional materials if you want to learn more (while not being enforced) I can confidently say I have learn something new that makes me be a bit more present to the world around me.

The specialization gives a good overview of basic biology. The courses are well paced, the instructor is engaging and explains things well. The courses are a little basic, and the genetics section isn't explained in the best manner (but this isn't a genetics course on Mendel).

The course was interesting, insightful and the teachers was well articulated and passionate about the subject. The final assignment was not difficult, but required study and engagement in the subject, which was a good way to finish off the course
