In this project, you will develop an understanding and appreciation for data visualization. You will review the benefits of data visualization as you examine existing examples of data that is displayed in a variety of visual formats. In addition, you will gain some hands-on experience in building your own data visualization examples by aggregating data and generating simple charts in Google Sheets. Note: This course works best for learners who are based in the North America region. We’re currently working on providing the same experience in other regions.

Requirements

Required - the ability to log into Google in the Chrome browser with your own Google account. Exposure to Google Sheets - helpful, but not required.

Learn step-by-step

In a video that plays in a split-screen with your work area, your instructor will walk you through these steps:

  1. Gain an understanding of the importance of data visualization as you examine examples and discuss the benefits of viewing data differently.

  2. Generate averages and calculate the percentage of change in sales values in Google Sheets in preparation for creating charts for data visualization.

  3. Chart the data a Google worksheet to create a pie chart that shows the amount and percentage of sales for four divisions.

  4. Chart the data on a Google worksheet to show a line for each division demonstrating how sales amounts increase or decrease from one month to the next.

  5. Chart the data on a Google worksheet to show a bar for each division demonstrating how each division's sales values have increased or decreased over the course of six months.
