Master Unity shader programming and create custom lighting, materials, vertex effects, and cinematic screen effects for real-time projects.
Progress from foundational shader development to advanced visual effects, reusable shader components, and performance optimization.
This Specialization provides a practical pathway for developing custom shaders for games, simulations, visualization, and interactive media. You will begin by creating shader properties, applying textures and transparency, working with normal maps, and implementing lighting models including toon, Phong, Blinn-Phong, and anisotropic shading.
You will then manipulate vertices and fragments to create animation, extrusion, snow, glass, water, distortion, transparent surfaces, and volumetric effects. You will also learn to profile shaders, improve runtime efficiency, create mobile-friendly effects, and implement screen-based adjustments for depth, brightness, saturation, and contrast.
Finally, you will develop cinematic and specialized effects using blend modes, overlays, old-film processing, night vision, reusable CG include files, layered fur, and heat maps. By completing the Specialization, you will be able to design visually distinctive shaders while making informed decisions about rendering performance, maintainability, and real-time application requirements.
Applied Learning Project
Learners will build practical Unity shader projects involving custom materials, lighting models, vertex manipulation, transparency, water, glass, distortion, post-processing, fur, and heat map effects. They will also profile and optimize shader performance to create visually effective, reusable solutions for games, simulations, and interactive applications.
