Whether you have entry qualifications or experience working in a data science role, earning a Master's degree in Data Science (Statistics) can help accelerate your career. If you do not have the standard entry qualifications for the Master’s degree in Data Science (Statistics) the University of Leeds welcomes applications via the Performance Pathway entry route.
To meet the standard entry requirements, you need a 2:1 Bachelor of Science honours degree (3.0 GPA). Transcripts should show evidence of at least 5 undergraduate modules in a combination of mathematics and statistics. At least one module should be in Statistics, and all modules should be across at least 2 years of your previous study.
To qualify for the Performance Pathway entry route, you need either:
a minimum of a 3rd class (2.2 GPA) Bachelor of Science honours degree or Bachelor of Engineering honours degree or
3 years of relevant professional work experience. This experience should demonstrate competencies in:
Working with large data sets
Visualising and summarising data
“Cleaning” data
Data modelling
Statistical analysis
Using statistical software such as R, SPSS, or Python
To evaluate your work experience, we will contact you with details about the additional information you need to provide after submitting your application.
Once you begin your studies, you’ll also need to achieve a pass (50% weighted average or higher) in both of the first two degree courses to remain on the degree: Programming for Data Science and Statistical Methods. You do not need to complete these courses before you enrol, they will simply form part of your first term studying the degree.
If you do not achieve a pass (50% weighted average or higher) in both of the first two courses, you will not be able to continue and will be withdrawn from the degree.
To apply for the MSc Data Science (Statistics) programme, you need to complete an application form on the My Leeds application portal. For guidance on how to this, please follow the step-by-step guide on the University of Leeds website.
