In this module, learners will explore how news and information, community organizations, political parties, public opinion, and public action influence democracy in daily life. They will examine how these forces help people make their voices heard, hold leaders accountable, build trust, and shape the decisions that affect their communities.

Democracies can weaken over time when those in positions of power misuse their authority, manipulate election rules, allow corruption to spread, or undermine public trust. In this module, learners will explore how corruption, unfair elections, political division, misinformation, and the misuse of government power can weaken democracy. They will also examine how courts, elections, independent media, community organizations, and individuals help protect democracy and support its long-term health.
