There are 4 modules in this course

This module introduces spatial reference systems, coordinates, and projections - the mathmatical and engineering systems for how we refer to locations on the Earth in an unambiguous and portable way.

What's included

4 videos1 reading1 assignment1 ungraded lab

This module introduces common ways spatial data are stored and accessed in files and how they can be manipulated and visualized with GIS software. The module will provide some examples using US Census data.

What's included

3 videos1 assignment1 ungraded lab

This module extends the two prior modules to introduce concepts for programming with geospatial data formats and leveraging coordinate systems and projections. It is organized into three submodules: data I/O, which introduces methods of reading and writing spatial data to files, R & Grass, which introduces two programming environments useful for working with spatial data, lastly a programming exercise oriented around a research question.

What's included

6 videos3 readings2 assignments1 programming assignment2 ungraded labs

This final module goes beyond individual file formats and considers how to utilize database systems and cloud systems to store more complex or large spatial data.
