About the Course

This course covers the most important numerical methods that an engineer should know, including root finding, matrix algebra, integration and interpolation, ordinary and partial differential equations. We learn how to use MATLAB to solve numerical problems, and access to MATLAB online and the MATLAB grader is given to all students who enroll. We assume students are already familiar with the basics of matrix algebra, differential equations, and vector calculus. They should have a working knowledge of a programming language, and be willing to learn MATLAB. The course contains 74 short lecture videos and MATLAB demonstrations. After each lecture or demonstration, there are problems to solve or programs to write. The course is organized into six weeks, and at the end of each week, there is an assessed quiz and a longer programming project. This course is perfect for someone starting with numerical methods and matlab programming. Short lectures, well distributed course content and interesting assignment problems.

Prof. Chasnov is one the best math's teacher I've ever known. Although I prefer Python, the course was great especially in descripting mathematical foundations. Thanks a lot!

Another great course from Professor Chasnov. I was able to learn some fundamental numerical methods to solve many types of problems and equations. It is the first time that I use Matlab, and although we only scratch the surface, it was interesting to see what can be achieved using this impressive mathematical environment.

The course is made easy to understand even without watching the videos. The lecture notes is extremely well drafted and accurate. What I found the best is that the concept of each theory is explained in a simple language which takes away the intimidation while solving complex equations. Kudos to Prof. Jeffrey Chasnov!!!

Very good coverage of the most common numerical methods used to solve different engineering problems. The flow of the course is really good with videos and exercises, quizzes and programming assignments to solve interesting physical problems. Another brilliant course by prof Jeff Chasnov.

It was a challenging course, but all the concepts are well explained and the programming activities encourage you to complete all the course. Useful to those who want to learn methods to solve differential equations and apply theoretical models to different knowledge fields.

I really liked this course. The experience of doing this course has been pleasant, challenging, thought-stimulating.

It is good even for beginners in Matlab programming with good grip in Mathemtics/Calculus.

The instruction is good, providing space for independent thinking.

Very nice introduction to numerical methods. The teacher explains the topics with passion and he is very clear in his explanations. The projects at the end of each week are very useful to put in practice the methods explained in the course.
