What I Learned From a Terrible Manager Early in my career, I worked for someone who was, objectively, a pretty average manager. Disorganised, poor communicator, had favourites. But he did one thing that changed how I think about development: he gave me projects that scared me. Not in a malicious way—he just had this knack for identifying when someone was getting too comfortable and needed a stretch assignment.
