Terrific course that delivers a comprehensive intro to AI fundamentals. Dr. Callison-Burch’s inclusion of AI’s history and applications added a fascinating layer of depth. Despite having years of Python experience, I was introduced to several new and convenient Python concepts. The coding assignments were stimulating, practical, and fun; overall, this was a great learning experience!

This course explains its content very well and on the same time focuses on the bigger picture and the underlying principles. I really enjoyed the new insights I got and am looking forward to the next course in this specialization.

Prof. Chris Callison‑Burch’s Artificial Intelligence Essentials course is an outstanding introduction to the foundations and modern capabilities of AI. What makes his teaching exceptional is the clarity with which he explains core concepts—search, optimization, probabilistic reasoning, machine learning, and generative models—while always grounding them in real, intuitive examples. His ability to demystify complex ideas without oversimplifying them is rare, and it makes the course accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds. The structure of the course reflects his deep experience as both a researcher and educator. Each module builds logically on the last, reinforcing understanding through hands‑on exercises that encourage experimentation rather than rote completion. His explanations of large language models and contemporary AI systems are particularly strong, offering a balanced view of both their power and limitations. What I appreciated most is how the course cultivates genuine conceptual understanding. Instead of treating AI as a black box, Prof. Callison‑Burch equips learners with the intuition needed to reason about algorithms, evaluate model behavior, and think critically about real‑world applications.

It could have more programming assignments, maybe not that long, but a few short ones.

lectures are good, but assignment instructions lack clarity. I am often left trying to figure out what the expectations are, rather than figure out how to write the code

despite the topics are essential, interesting and one is engaged with the topics right away - the pace of the instructor is very slow, his presentations are very redundant, altogether making the whole course a bit disengaging
