In today’s dynamic business landscape, wireless networks have evolved far beyond basic data transport—they now support bandwidth-intensive and time-sensitive multimedia applications across industries like retail, finance, and education. As these demands grow, implementing effective Quality of Service (QoS) measures becomes essential to ensure critical applications—such as VoIP, video, and enterprise databases—always perform reliably. This course provides a comprehensive journey into the world of wireless and wired QoS, guiding you through the core principles, challenges, and best practices for modern enterprise networks.
Leveraging expertise from Cisco, a global leader in networking, the course blends practical case studies with a unified, vendor-agnostic approach to QoS. You’ll explore how to design and implement tailored QoS policies that prioritize business-critical applications, and learn to coordinate end-to-end QoS strategies across campus, WAN, and service provider networks. The curriculum spotlights the importance of synchronizing enterprise and service provider policies, and showcases how Cisco’s Software-Defined Access, SD-WAN, and Software-Defined Data Center solutions deliver cutting-edge, unified QoS. Whether you manage networks or are looking to advance your technical skills, this course delivers essential, in-demand knowledge designed to future-proof your expertise.

In the past, WLANs were mainly used to transport low-bandwidth, data-application traffic. Currently, with the expansion of WLANs into vertical (such as retail, finance, and education) and enterprise environments, WLANs are used to transport high-bandwidth data applications, in conjunction with time-sensitive, multimedia applications. This requirement led to the necessity for wireless quality of service (QoS). To speed up the rate of QoS adoption and to support multi-vendor time-sensitive applications, a unified approach to wireless QoS is necessary.
When it comes to networking in modern Software Defined Networks (SDN), quality of service (QoS) is a critical factor to ensure that important applications and services perform reliably. Cisco offers QoS capabilities in their Cisco Software-Defined Access (SD-Access), Software-Defined Data Center, and Cisco Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) solutions.

IP was designed to provide best-effort service for delivery of data packets and to run across virtually any network transmission media and system platform. To manage applications such as VoIP, video, e-commerce, and databases, among others, a network requires quality of service (QoS). Different applications have varying requirements for delay, jitter, bandwidth, packet loss, and availability. These parameters form the basis of QoS. To successfully deploy a QoS policy, you must understand the needs of the business applications that are important to the success of the business and create an executive-backed QoS policy that prioritizes these business-critical applications according to best practices. To facilitate true end-to-end QoS on an IP network, a QoS policy must be deployed in both the campus network and the WAN. Each network segment has specific QoS policy requirements and associated best practices. When the enterprise uses a service provider network that provides Layer 3 transport, end-to-end QoS requires close coordination between the QoS policy of the enterprise and that of the service provider.

When will I have access to the lectures and assignments?
To access the course materials, assignments and to earn a Certificate, you will need to purchase the Certificate experience when you enroll in a course. You can try a Free Trial instead, or apply for Financial Aid. The course may offer 'Full Course, No Certificate' instead. This option lets you see all course materials, submit required assessments, and get a final grade. This also means that you will not be able to purchase a Certificate experience.
What will I get if I subscribe to this Specialization?
When you enroll in the course, you get access to all of the courses in the Specialization, and you earn a certificate when you complete the work. Your electronic Certificate will be added to your Accomplishments page - from there, you can print your Certificate or add it to your LinkedIn profile.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. In select learning programs, you can apply for financial aid or a scholarship if you can’t afford the enrollment fee. If fin aid or scholarship is available for your learning program selection, you’ll find a link to apply on the description page.
