Jeff Thindwa

Practice Manager, Open and Collaborative Governance

Bio

Jeff Thindwa is Practice Manager for Open and Accountable Governance in the World Bank’s Governance Global Practice, and leads work programs on governance of extractive industries, open government, citizen engagement, social accountability and parliamentary strengthening. Mr. Thindwa joined the World Bank 2000, becoming Team Leader of the Participation and Civic Engagement Cluster in the Social Development Department, which supported World Bank financed operations in integrating social accountability and participation. Later he was Team Leader of the Global Civil Society Team, before joining the Bank’s South Asia Region as Senior Social Development Specialist. In 2010 he joined the World Bank Institute and became Manager of the Social Accountability Practice.Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked in international development for 18 years with civil society organizations. Formerly, he served as a legal aid lawyer for the Government of Malawi and practiced law in the private sector.

As a respected thought leader in citizen engagement and social accountability, Jeff has contributed to several World Bank and external publications on the theme. He holds an LLB and Post Graduate Diploma in European Union Law from the University of Malawi and King’s College London.
